Hello,
I attended a Contemporary Christian Concert event last evening and generally had a good experience. Of concern, hoewever, was during an interlude in the music, there was some commentary that mentioned that we are saved not by good works but by our faith. I took this to be an anti-catholic dig but am I being too defensive?

Considering that contemporary Christian music is largely an evangelical Protestant driven cultural project, yes you are being too defensive. Salvation by faith, not good works is the heart of Protestantism. It’s a basic belief of evangelicalism, which dominates the CCM marketplace. Why would you think that expressing that belief would be designed solely to antagonize the Catholic communion?

I really do hope you know that Catholics don’t believe we are saved by works we believe that we are saved by grace through faith and that faith without works is dead.

I never liked how they never go beyond that and explain it with just a bit more depth. It always gives the wrong impression especially for younger participants, new converts, Christians with a different background and non-Christians. I know it confused me a lot when I was younger.

We are Justified by faith…which bring about Good Works and we are in the process of being saved by how we live out our lives. Justification is a past activity. Salvation is an ongoing process until we die. I am justified and I hope to be saved…

Nothing to worry about. As has been mentioned, Protestants working out their faith the best they know how. I was at a contemporary Christian concert last week and experienced the same thing. Wouldn’t expect anything different-did make me want to go evangelize the band though:D

Glad you enjoyed the music.

Glad you had fun. Sounds awesome!!!

I don’t get the anti-Catholic (or not) argument. We are Christians, brothers and sisters in Christ, hopefully trying to do as Jesus did the best we can. Faith is important to all of us.
