Attended First RCIA Class

I don’t know if I’m posting this under the right topic but here goes:

I’m just so excited. Monday night I attended the first pre-inquiry meeting/class for RCIA. I am so looking forward to this and have been waiting for months.

I have really been back and forth about this. A bit intimidated because I don’t know anyone at the church, it’s just something that my husband and I have been drawn too. I have also questioned some Catholic beliefs such as Mary’s perpetual virginity. However, I am so drawn to the Catholic Church, the Rosary and the Saints that I am going forward and believe that everything will be explained and I’ll learn so much. I really want to do this.

It’s so funny because I really dreaded telling my husband that I wanted to look into the Catholic Church and attend mass because we’d had some negative experiences with a few Catholic people and I figured he’d think I was nuts. Being the wonderful man that he is, he was all for it! It’s just like it’s meant to be.

He can’t attend RCIA with me because he’s a truck driver and is on the road Monday through Friday or Saturday, however, Father Tom said that he would meet with him a couple of Saturday mornings a month or make some arrangements for him so he would not be denied the faith due to his job.

I’m really impressed. Father Tom seems to have such a great faith and I’m looking forward to learning a lot from him. Looking forward to next Monday night. I almost didn’t go this week because we have been going through some really negative things that have suddenly turned around for us and turned out to be such a blessing in disguise. However, my husband was smart enough to know that I really needed this and made me promise to go and not let anything get in the way and I did. 🙂

I do have to get started right away though on an annulment of a previous marriage but it sounds like I have good grounds and I’m just praying all goes smooth with it. Please wish me luck.

I also have a nephew who converted a year or two ago. It was so funny because we were all surprised when he did it but really no one was against it. Just surprised. I had no idea at the time I would be interested in it myself and yet here I am. It’s great to have him to talk to as he just experienced it all so recently and can you believe, during all of that he met his wife who is Catholic also and It’s just like it was meant to be.

At any rate, I’m just so looking forward to converting and wanted to share my enthusiasm. These message boards have been a great source of info for me. I’m totally addicted and reading them every day. There’s so much to learn.

You don’t know this but when us cradle catholics hear stories like yours, it refreshes us. We see new things about our faith through the eyes of converts. If you think it’s wonderful only for you, let me tell you, it’s wonderful for us too.

If you haven’t yet, check out Surprised by Truth 1-3 by Patrick Madrid…conversion stories. I’m sure that many of the questions you may have or didn’t know you had will be addressed by their stories. Also, EWTN has a show every monday night The Journey Home with Marcus Grodi (a convert as well) featuring converts to the faith. If you don’t have EWTN, they broadcast over the internet or Relevant Radio if you have it in SW Ohio.

The depth of Catholicism cannot be fathomed in one lifetime. So you’ll never run out of things to learn.

God Bless your journey and whatever difficulties prove to be steppingstones to your coming close to Christ.

I started by Catechist certification classes this summer, and I start two more next week. It’s my dream to be able to help at RCIA, I think it would be so rewarding, plus I think I have been around the barn enough to really offer some help!

I keep hearing about the Surprised by the Truth books. I am going to see if I can get my hands on them. They sound great. Also, I’ll check out the Journey Home. I do get EWTN. 🙂 Thanks for the info and encouragement. While it may be a lot of commitment and time and effort to convert, as far as I’m concerned, I’m going to learn all I can and enjoy every minute of it.

I loved RCIA. I always looked forward to Wednesday nights…the Coffee and snacks were good to. I enjoyed asking questions so much that I had to promise my wife that I would not ask more than two questions per meeting three questions if absolutely necessary. So I had to think of really good ones and work multiple issues into my questions. The people are these boards are great. Prayer are being offered along with mine

My RCIA experiences were very pleasant. Such a great way to learn - much, much warmer than any of my college classes. 😃

Congrats! I also started RCIA this week. I am very excited although it has been much rockier for me because my husband is very against becoming Catholic. My child started kindergarten last year at the school and I am hoping to bring her into the church with me. We had one terrible discussion and after many tears and talks with Catholic friends and much prayer, it turned around in just one day! He is now much more understanding and we are going to make this work. I will still pray that he comes into the church but I am learning about God’s time vs. my time.

Welcome Amie, I attended the R.C.I.A program with my wife who converted to the faith. When we were dating she told me she would never step foot in a Catholic Church. Now, She tells me, the greatest thing she can ever thank me for is introducing her to the Catholic faith. This is my second year as director of the R.C.I.A program at our parish, and yes you might of guessed it? my wife is assisting me in our program.We just started our classes also, My prayers will be with you. Each day is a new day to live for Our Lord.
 
Welcome to everyone who is in RCIA! I converted this past spring through RCIA, I’m still close friends with many of my teachers and I continue to learn from them all the time…RCIA was a wonderful experience for me and has taught me so much…Its important to learn as much as you can and then continue your education after Confirmation.

I was baptized by catholic priest along with my little sisters when I was 15. When I was 20 I expressed interest in being confirmed to become a full catholic so I inquired about rcia classes but at the time it wasn’t plausible because of transportation issues etc. so almost 7 yrs later end of August I inquired again but explained I may need some help transportation wise in attending or getting home and that I use a wheelchair. A few wks later they said they could help me out, I was so excited because I sang in the choir for years but was never a full catholic and now I start my rcia class tomorrow! 🙂
 
Oh my darling, WELCOME HOME!! I went through RCIA last year and it was such a wonderful time. I could hardly wait for Wednesday evening, and my husband would say, “Chiildren, Mom is off to Catholic school!” Of course, the children are our three cats. They’re Catlics, you know, so they were very happy for me 👍 Now my precious husband has started RCIA and I still can’t believe it sometimes. He was so very supportive of me, happily going to every event I asked him to attend. Little did I know what was going on between him and the Holy Spirit. Little did I know. So now I will be one of the Cookie Ladies who serve refreshments before the class starts.

WELCOME HOME to both of you, and all the others who are on this blessed journey. I pray for you always.
