I read recently that it is permitted to receive the Eucharist twice per day and this is what I did. Is this permission given in the Catechism ?

It’s in the Code of Canon Law, can. 917.
Note that under Can. 917, the second Communion has to be received “within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates” - in other words, at a Mass.

(Can. 921 deals with those in danger of death receiving Holy Communion.)Can. 917 A person who has already received the Most Holy Eucharist can receive it a second time on the same day only within the eucharistic celebration in which the person participates, without prejudice to the prescript of ⇒ can. 921, §2.

encourage other “retirees” to duplicate my Christmas Day experience as

i clearly said “The SECOND communion.” I did not say anything about “both”, so I’m not sure why you felt the point needed to be made.
