When I lived in the DFW area, there was a great FSSP community. Theyāve even managed to make their own parish since then, which was pretty awesome.
One of the hard things to adjust to was less the speed at which the priest spoke, but more the volume at which he spoke.

It was less of a problem at High Masses, where you have the Gregorian chant going on, but more of a problem at Low Masses when youāre looking for something to focus on. But I remember at an instructional gathering that the volume bit was deliberate. People were coming to him and saying, āFather, I can barely hear you!ā and he said, āOh? You can hear me?ā and made a mental note to try and be softer-voiced.

So I think ultimately, except for the obvious times (readings, homilies, etc), heās leading us in prayer-- but his words arenāt necessarily for our benefit and for us to follow. Speed and volume would both be reflective of that. Yay for missals.
One of the things that did bother me was the attitude I encountered towards receiving the Blood-- talking distastefully about nowadays and backwash, germs, etc.

But I do remember in the early 80ās, there were priests who still didnāt offer their parishes communion under both species, and even nowadays at weekday Mass in my little rural parish, we only receive the Body. Since Christ is infinitely present in both forms, it didnāt bother me too muchā but yes, I do miss it when itās not available.
