**After over 1 year I once again visited the Novus Ordo Service.
**

I returned as I was required to attend for another individual, and so my intentions were good. For those of you who have read some of my posts, you should know that I attend a TLM mass, and would probably anticipate that I do not attend the NO.

I made an exception.

At the service I was respectful, observant, and participated to the best of my ability where appropriate.

Again it was not my intention, before my visitation, to note anything or post a thread but I felt the need to, it is the right thing to do and it is the Truth of what occurred.

Here is but only a little of what took place:

**(1) **Talking by individuals was heard throughout the service, albeit some at a low level, but too high for a mass.

**(2) **The priest noted during his homily that the Holy Bible is not historical, is not a historical book

(3)
Extraordinary ministers were used and were not required. **Blatant abuse of this idea of the laity distributing the Most Holy Eucharist.
**
(4) Desecration of the Eucharist - laity bought up some bowls from the back of the Church and were used by them to distribute the Most Holy Eucharist. Also, at the end of the distribution, the bowls were not cleaned of any particulate Eucharist, and were just left on a table.

(5) Service ended in a mere 29 minutes. This may not be a shock to some, but during mass the Priest called up some children for a talk on Communion. This took up at least about 4-5 minutes.

(6) **No kneeling **before entering/exiting pews. It may of occurred somewhere, but from where I was situated, I could notice many kneel if it was performed. (Not to mention that many did not know when to kneel nor when to stand. Even in my long absence I knew the Order.

(7) **Altar girls and boys clearly talking during mass (throughout). **Of course it was not heard by the priests (I would think), but a noticeable distraction to the faithful.

(8) **Choir at times was more interested in their music than the Eucharist, **since they were discussing something and pointing at the musical notes during mass, then laughing all so softly. It was also a distraction.

**(9) **Priest mentioned during Homily that we must distance ourselves from traditions and the traditional and be "more vibrant and modern"

(10)
He called on the Grades 6 - 8 to join on his to classes/club which he called “Our Faith on/of Fire”(???)

(11)
Dress was inappropriate. Some were dressed in a manner unbecoming. Definitely not appropriate for Church.

(12) No Penance. There was not one confession at least 30 minutes prior to commencement of the service.(of course this has not changed since I was there last. Although at another Church there were confessions done, but on a miniscule scale in comparison to the TLM, and I am including the Lenten season and Easteride)

(13) Rush to leave after only 29 minutes!

(14)
Some were discourteous in the parking lot. It was difficult to get out, even when edging out of my spot, as cars were bumper to bumper and even though myself and others made a polite move get in line, I was not permitted. I reversed and waited for traffic to have left. (This was brought when I last attended this Church by the Priest, and he requested that we should not be in a rush to leave and to be more Christian in the Parking lot. This has obviously had no effect) It is also dangerous to walk in the parking lot due to the mad rush!.

Please Note, I am not saying this occurs in all Novus Ordo services but I know it happens in our Archdiocese on a large scale.
Our Archdiocese represents Millions of people.

This does not occur in the Indult or SSPX masses, of the same region, at all.

This event deeply saddened me, But simultaneously strengthened my love of “The Mass of All Times”.

That is very sad that in some places this is what the mass is becoming.

I’m so glad the moto proprio came out when it did. I am a traditional person. I am joining the Church because it holds to tradition. It obeys God and doesn’t just jive with whatever is cool at the time, Had the Pope not allowed the TLM or EF or whatever be performed and I couldn’t partake in it and learn the true beauty and reverence and worship of the Mass, I might not have bothered anymore.

EDIT: Correction: not performed, but celebrated. That NO and too many others like it are performances.

This is very sad and I’m sorry that you had to experience these abuses. I am blessed that none of this occurs at the OF Mass at my parish.

Hopefully, there are other good parishes in your area where such abuses do not occur. As more good young priests are ordained, this should change.

God bless!

You know what you saw. I don’t.

But it could be that these vessels were purified in the Sacristy after the dismissal.

That is very sad. Rest assured there are very reverent and beautiful Pauline (OF or NO) Masses out there! I have personally witnessed Pauline masses that have almost brought me to tears…NO Masses that make use of Latin, gorgeous Sacred Music, altar boys, impressive processions, no Extraordinary Ministers, etc, etc. In this Archdiocese (in Canada) there are parishes where receiving Our Lord kneeling at the altar rail is an option (in the NO). This is, sadly, not the norm, but I have encountered at least one NO parish in the Archdiocese where EVERY last person received kneeling at the altar rail. At our cathedral the faithful are given both options. Some line up along the centre aisle and receive standing (from priests), while others kneel along the altar rail to the left and right and are served by other priests. The cathedral is very good at minimizing Extraordinary Ministers by bringing in non-celebrating priests in residence at the appropriate time. This, of course, isn’t an option at a smaller parish.

Also, I have probably attended masses at least 25 parishes in Western Canada, and while I have encountered many abuses, I have never experienced a Sunday Mass shorter than 45-50 minutes…most are closer to an hour. I can not even imagine how the Holy Mass could be celebrated in 29 minutes. That being said, where I attend daily mass the Sacrifice is over in about 25 minutes…but this being a daily mass and not a Sunday mass it is more understandable.
