Attending 1st Mass EVER on Sunday!

I want to say collectively, that I have found the warmest, nicest people here at CAF. You have made me feel very welcomed and are a loving group. I thank God that I was able to find you all at the beginning of my new journey in Christ. I thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers:hug1:

New update.

Hubby had to have upper GI today. They were running late (aren’t they always) and I had to drive him home. We didn’t get out of there til 1. I had to call her and tell her I wouldn’t be there in time. 😦

But, here’s good news. My daughter’s best-friend’s mom took me to the hospital after class so I’d be able to be there for hubby’s procedure and take him home. We were talking and I mentioned that I had the appt. today at the Catholic church. She asked me was I Catholic and I said no not yet, I am going to convert, though. She told me she was Catholic! I don’t know how we never got around to talking about religion before now. She asked if I was going to do RCIA. I told her yes. She asked me if I was doing it at the church near us. I told her yes and that’s the church she attends!!! Praise God!!! :yyeess: :extrahappy:

I have to thank everyone here for their prayers! God is really lighting the path! I can’t wait to tell you about my FIRST MASS!!!

Hi Kathy!

I realize that the title of your thread has to do with Sunday Mass. I’d like to recommend that when you get a chance, you also go to a daily Mass or two. Daily masses are usually not well attended - but that means fewer distractions and in my case at least, more concentration on the words, actions, and meanings of everything going on.

Nothing personal here. I make this recommendation to everybody 😃

I never thought of that. Is there anything that I could find online as what to do?? Prayers??? Anything will help.

If you go to this web site, look just below “Mass Schedule”. You can download and print 2 documents that might help you out. If this isn’t what you need, let me know!

I’m excited for you, and you are in my prayers.

PS the 2 documents are titled “Mass walk-thru…” and “Printable summary…”

Praise God! :extrahappy: We need more converts to the Catholic faith and now that you and your family is converting, that will increase our numbers somewhat which is great! Congratulations! 👍

I wrote to conflictedboy, and now I wanted to give you the same support. I can feel your excitement coming through your words. I am exited for you too.

Remember, before you go to mass, sit down in prayer and reflection. You should do this before every mass. I am guilty sometimes of runnin’ around and running out of time to prepare for mass. It really does make a difference. Take at least a few minutes to pray and reflect about everything, especially your attitude, having a humble and open heart, and mindful of your sins that you want to rid yourself of the habits of. I like to say an Act of Contrition too. I really want my heart to be rid of any desire of my own over God’s Will in any matter. It really does help you get in the perfect place when you are about to go to mass. Anyway, enjoy your first mass. It is a beautiful thing to experience.

PS, take some kleenex!!! :D:p:D

I remember 16 years ago when I went to my first mass!!! I tell you dear friend the scales fell from my eyes that day-before that wonderful Sunday I wouldn’t even sleep in a room with a Bible in it (I’d move it to another room or put it outside the door on the floor) now days I must say that things are much the opposite.:extrahappy::extrahappy: I have never been happier than I am as a Catholic!
I’m so excited that you have heard His call and opened the door.

Thank you for your advice. With all the busy-ness in getting ready for church, the kids, etc., I see where it’s easy to not be prepared. I would have never thought of that. Of course I’ll be praying tonite, but never thought of before actually going. I thank you kindly for that. I’m sure that I will LOVE it. Oh and I will definitely have some tissue as I know I will find myself humbled before God and thankful for leading me to Home to Him and to a new Church family.

Well, the scales fell from my eyes too but in a different way – misconceptions about Christ’s Church. I always felt like I was seeking something but not finding. Definitely a can’t see the forest for the trees and also not having my heart and mind open completely to God. This time it just seemed so different. Once I gave my soul to God, he told me what he wanted me to know, and at a time that I wasn’t even thinking of church at all. He’s amazing!! I’m just glad I listened;)

Kathy, here in Japan we are among the first countries to celebrate the Lord’s Day. I just want you to know that I remembered you at the 8:00 o’clock mass this morning and prayed that the Holy Spirit will fill your heart with grace and joy as you attend your first mass. You are sleeping now, I’m sure, or perhaps anxiously awaiting the dawning of the sabbath. My prayers continue for you and all your family. God bless.

Thank you kindly for remembering me in your prayers at Mass this morning (well, yesterday now). I was up late doing homework and wasn’t really tired, I guess from the excitement for tomorrow. I thank God for wonderful Christians such as yourself that are kind and mindful of others. I will let you know how tomorrow goes:)

Hey, I just thought I would give you another little bit of advice. When you go into the sanctuary, you will see the parishoners taking a knee and doing the sign of the cross before they enter the pew (we do it at the end of mass as we leave the pew too.) Anyway, what we are doing is acknowledging the Presence of Christ in the Host in the Tabernacle.

What I thought you might want to know is that after entering the pew, we pull the kneeler down, kneel and this is a last chance to “prepare for mass.” You can kneel there as long as you want (or until mass starts.) You will usually hear bells and then everyone stands. Just to get you started. The congregation will sit, stand, and kneel several times throughout the hour. Feel free to watch or participate in this however you feel most comfortable. If you decide to sit/stand/kneel, just watch what everyone else does. It will be easy.

I can’t wait to hear how you take in the beautiful experience.

Just wanted to quickly let you know that I participated to the fullest extent. It really
wasn’t difficult to follow along. I really felt at peace. At Home.

I can’t wait til next Sunday! lol!
