Attending a protestant church out of respect

I have to attend one out of respect for my mom and brother it is my old protestant baptist church that i have not been to in over a year, i was planning on going to saturday night mass, is that ok. I am not catholic yet but have a bad feeling about the protestant church now . thanks.

There is nothing wrong with attending a protestant church out of respect for a family member. I attended, and will attend again, my husband’s Lutheran church.

Going to Mass on Saturday fulfills your obligation, so you’re good. No worries.

As long as you fulfill your Sunday (or Saturday vigil) obligation to go to Mass, I see no problem in your attending a Protestant service out of respect for your mother and brother. Protestants are our brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s okay to pray with them and to sing and give Glory to God with them. Just make sure you do not participate in any type of Communion. Just smile and be friendly and let the light of Christ shine from within you! Just keep in mind that some Bible verses may be interpreted differently, so you may want to take your Catholic Bible along to make sure that you understand the Catholic interpretation.

I agree 100% with the poster above, I just want to caution that taking your Catholic bible to certain protestant churches can raise some ire from the members. Make sure you know how that particular denomination feels about Catholicism. Some of them will see you as a ‘target’ the moment they find out that your Catholic and will come at you trying to make you defend your faith.

I attend Mass and then go to my husband’s church

I bring my bible w/ me and have my rosary in my pocket.

I have a cover for my Bible so nobody would know which one it is anyhow. Maybe you could get an inexpensive cover? Are you sure anyone would really be paying attention to the name of the Bible on your cover? Mine doesn’t even have the word “Catholic” on it. Or maybe you could just look up the verses when you get home.
