I was just brought into the Church on the Easter Vigil, and I am currently on vacation in the Diocese of Venice, FL. This Sunday I will be attending the TLM at St. Agnes Chapel in Naples, FL.

Any advice for a first-timer?

Most of the underlying structure you will recognize - Though there is alot different. I found this online from Notre Dame that can give you a heads up…

…the biggest differences that jump out at you is the language of course, the direction the priest faces, the silent canon, and communion at the altar rail (kneeling and on the tounge only).

My best advice for newcomers - be patient with yourself if/when you get “lost” on precisely what prayer is being offered - if you’re lost, just unite yourself with the Sacrifice taking place upon the altar. Follow along as best you can, but if its frustrating you, it’s quite alright to put the missal down and prayerfully observe.

Peace in Christ,

Thanks for the advice. I’ve already learned a few of the Latin responses just by watching EWTN occasionally. Receiving on the tongue is nothing new for me, as I’ve been doing since my first Eucharist which was ALREADY A WEEK AGO! (I’ve snuck a few daily Masses in there since then). 😃

So I went this morning, and I did enjoy it, but in all honesty (I know this can be a touchy subject), I think I may prefer the Ordinary Form (reverently done of course). There were many things that I appreciated about the Extraordinary Form, though, such as the priest facing ad orientem, everyone treating the time like it was sacred, and the priest actually celebrating Mass, not putting on a show.

I do plan on attending more Extraordinary Masses, though, when I get the chance, and the experience has made me much more zealous for addressing the abuses within the Ordinary Form.

There’s nothing that bugs me more than people bashing the EF when they’ve never even attended one.

Read the Understanding Latin thread in the Traditional Catholicism section. It has some useful information for you and some links too! 🙂
