Attending the TLM mass

I’m curious about this mass, but am concerned that I may be barred at the doors. What do I have to do, wear, etc., in order to be allowed within? There is one church here in my city that offers a High Mass on Sundays, and I really am curious to see what it is like.

I attended my own service today at Saturday vigil, and quite like the priest, who always cracks some Catholic Church related joke at the end of his homily, but is very serious about the Mass in general.
 
I’m not sure what part of Canada you live in but in Vanvouver there is an FSSP parish that is truely wonderful. The folks are very friendly and willing to welcome newcomers. We attend Mass there every time we visit my son and his wife. You need not worry about a strict dress code. Just wear something that is modest. Old timers will probably reccommend a nice dress. My wife also wears either a chapel veil or mantilla. If you’ve never been to a TLM then just follow the others. It will take a while to become familiar with the Mass but its really reverent and wonderful.

Holy Family in Vancouver has two great priests and the Confessions are super. Nice Schola too.

Don’t worry about us Trads, we are really nice people. We don’t require finger printing or ID cards. And we don’t hold children hostage.

BTW, the traditional calender is a little different than the NO version. Such as; August 14th was the Assumption Vigil Mass and today was the Assumption. Wife and I did a little traveling; Friday’s Mass was in Portland (Pontifical Solemn High Mass with Bishop Meeking) and todays Mass was in Seattle (a High Mass with Fr. Saguto) Tommorrow reality sets in and its back to a NO Mass.

You may wish to arrive a bit early as some TLM parishes begin a Rosary before the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

A Solemn High Mass can last 1-2 hours depending on number in attendance.

Be prepared to receive communion from a kneeling position and on the tongue if you are physical able to do so.

Stay until the end.

Here’s how to dress modestly - From my church bulletin (the FSSP Mass in Vancouver)
Based on the principle that clothing is meant to conceal rather than to reveal, please dress modestly, even in warm weather.

Men and boys: please wear full length pants. Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not appropriate for Mass. Remove your ball cap before entering the Church.

Women and girls: dresses should reach well below the knee when sitting; shirts should cover the chest up to the collar bone. In your charity, avoid tight shirts, sleeveless blouses and tank tops. Finally, if pants are worn, they should be loose-fitting.

We have mantillas at the door if women/girls want to borrow them, if not, no one stares at you for not covering your head. There are always women there who do not wear head coverings, though the majority wear them.

Your first TLM experience is usually awesome, breathtaking and absolutely amazing! Then it just keeps getting better. 🙂

If it’s a Catholic service, you are welcome. Period.
 
Why would you be barred at the door?

Just be sure it’s not SSPX or a sedevacantist group like SSPV.
