How do I prepare for Latin Mass? I haven’t seen for 7 years, and that was a wedding.

Do I need to dress in any special way? Do you think jeans are disrespectful? It’s a saturday night mass… will it be the same time length as regular mass?

What are some differences other than language? We still shake hands after Our Father right?

Is there a special way to receive communion? I kneel and stick my tongue out? Do I have to do it that way?

Do I have to wear something on my head?

Thanks!

Sina

PS I am bringing my non Catholic husband. Should be beautiful for him I hope.

Is this a NO in Latin or a TLM mass? If it is the NO in Latin, then it will be just like your regular mass, only in Latin instead of English.

If it is a TLM, then most women wear dresses and cover their head. There is no “rule” that you must do so, it is only done out of tradition. There will be many differences in the mass and your participation will be through prayer, not verbal or in actions. In every TLM I have heard about or attended, Communion on the tongue is mandatory.

if it is a TLM and not a NO in Latin:

It should be about the same length, most are about an hour.

No shaking hands, the priest does that for us at the Kiss of Peace.

Receiving Communion…kneeling and put your tongue out and don’t respond amen.

Dont sweat the small stuff…follow on and embrace the beautifulness. Dress code…you will not be made to feel odd…though you will probably note the women folk will be in skirts and dresses and the men in good clobber not thongs and t-shirts and shorts. This is case for the Tridentine Mass

Most folk on their first attendances stand out because of clothing differences but it is actually a good thing…some kind folk will hopefully greet you afterwards and answer the odd question or ten…I hope it is a great experience and you return and return…

God Bless You and Yours

Turns out it was a NO Latin Mass. I hardly new of the differences before. It was beautiful. Next time, I hope to find a TLM.

Thanks for your responses 🙂
