Did you ever stop to consider that, amid all the cries of Hollywood pushing a gay agenda, the film is an independent production, not connected to any Hollywood studio?

Just curious, because the basis of using Brokeback to go on an anti-liberal Hollywood tear…well, it might work, if it were a Hollywood film.

If anyone did any research or even saw the movie they would know this. Thanks for [hopefully] opening some eyes. 👍

It came to me while working out. I hadn’t even thought of it because I enjoyed it enough I never considered classification.

Did you ever stop to consider that even though It might have been an independant production, it sure as heck has been embraced and is being endorsed by Hollywood.
I remember a certain independant film made about Christ a few years ago that didn’t get such kudos from Hollywood. (Yes it was a big production but it was not financed by a studio nor was it distributed through a Hollywood studio’s machinery)

The difference here is, Brokeback Mountain is a better made film than the also well-made film Passion. Of course, you’re just going to tell me Hollywood is biased and it got passed over because it was Christian and the world is out to get us.

Surely there have been movies not as well made as The Passion that have been endorsed by Hollywood.

(Not that I take a side in the Brokeback issue in any case, I’m just sayin)

As I recall, Scorsese got quite the acclaim for a little number he did on the subject.

Subjective at best. I can make a mean pan of browines. Better than anyone else. If I mix a dog turd in with it, it’s garbage no matter what the quality of the ingredients. This film could be bankrolled by my parents and distributed by squirrels and my opinion that Hollywood endorses and promotes garbage wouldn’t change!

And you think not? Ever heard of a little battle between good and evil?
Understand something: WE ALL fight disordered inclinations. The film could be about any number of subjects. Homosexuality is just one of many. I’m against the normalization of ANY sin. My 14 year old son wanted to see “Meet the Fockers”. I’d classify this as more subversive and dangerous for him than Broke Back. The message is the same.
Can you tell me objectively that Hollywood is on a whole putting out and endorsing wholesome family friendly entertainment?

Was Brokeback not distributed by a major company even if the filming and production was “independent?” If not, how did it get onto so many screens in wide release on the 1st weekend? It did not appear in my area like the typical independent film on a handful of screens or even weeks after the initial small release on the 2 coasts. It does not matter who makes a film if a major distributor won’t pick it up then it is hard to get it into theaters. If they do then it has the big Hollywood money behind it at the release which is when it really matters. I’m not a ranter and I have not chosen to see it, but I just wondered.

It got picked up only because of oscar buzz for distribution, I’m not sure by who.

I think all fair-minded people know there is only one agenda Hollywood pushes, and that is the agenda for more $$$$.

I just came to that thought before reading your post. I’m sure we’re NOT the only ones who have come to this conclusion too!

I agree with you. Hollywood is Hollywood. It’s always been ‘scandoulous’. It wasn’t made up of religious people, and it still isn’t today. There are some. Brokeback Mountain seems like a beautiful film (haven’t seen it), and even though The Passion was cut out of the Oscar nomination last year, that doesn’t mean it was because it was religious. Many films were cut out this year that I would have liked to seen up there. Hollywood isn’t religious. But there’s still a patron saint for acting, ( St Genesius ) and remember IT’S ACTING. It’s not saying “Oh everyone let’s go out and support the gays!” It’s not even a film with tons of gay sex in it or anything to that effect.

My cousin, who is more liberal than I am, saw the movie and told me it was boring. She has no problem with gays, just with boring films like Brokeback Mountian.

I am actually not going to watch the Oscars because I don’t want to contribute to their ratings, which will probably be the lowest in history even if I did tune in.

Exactly. It simply was not among the best films made that year. People seem to think Brokeback getting a nomination is some agenda, but they sure wanted Passion to be nominated whether it is good enough or not.

The issue with people who complain about an agenda, isn’t the existence of an agenda. That they can live with. It’s the fact that it isn’t THEIR agenda.

Why would they be the lowest in history? That sounds like more angry wishful thinking because of the movies they nominated.

The movie critic for foxnews said that he felt the ratings for this years Oscars will be the lowest in history, that’s not just my opinion. The ratings were low last year when Chris Rock hosted the awards and he was funny. John Stewart isn’t as funny as Chris Rock so I think the ratings will take a dip.

I think actually think Capote should probably win despite it’s gay content. It’s probably a better movie and seems intresting. I may even rent it.

Fox News critics are so in the pocket of the right wing that they definitely have had their opinions colored by their own views. But I will say that the two best movies I’ve seen this year are Capote and Brokeback, and they definitely are going to be neck and neck.

I don’t mean to be rude, but do you find the humor in thinking about Brokeback Mountain while at the gym working out? 😃

My own basement. But yes I do and am overjoyed that someone here has the same sense of humor I do. 🙂
