For those who are registered voters in Oregon, there are three petitions that are currently collecting signatures. Both are of critical importance.
Right to Life
A petition is currently being circulated that grants all people the constitutional right to life. This includes all people, regardless of physical condition or age and defines life as beginning at fertilization. It further goes on to say that that the person cannot have their life terminated. This effectively ends abortion. The impact on capital punishment is unclear. I am sorry, but I cannot find any resources on the web for this.
**Marriage and Family **
Concerned Citizens of Oregon is sponsoring two petitions to overturn two laws passed by the Oregon Legislature last year, the infamous SB2 which granted minority status to those declaring themselves to be sexually deviant and HB2007 which created same-sex marriage under the name of domestic partnerships.
There are two separate petitions to address each of these laws. For more information, please see here.
Signature gathering for these two petitions should begin in about two weeks.
