Attracting people to Catholicism

Hey Guys,

I have many friends who are not catholic, yet have a desire in God. In today’s society, people are lazy, want objective proof, and they want it fast. They are too lazy to research themselves and find God, and have no desire to pray. Is there any good way to spark this desire in them, a website with not a lot of text with proof about why God exists etc. like the miracles, our existence and other reasons I cannot think of. This is pretty sad that people are too lazy to research it and it is killing me inside.

Bottom line: Please let me know what the most efficient way is in trying to incite desire in God in people who are lazy and want objective proof or very good reasoning.

I would begin with myself. Remember, “you may be the only bible someone will read”. If you life the example that we are all supposed to be, maybe that will spark them.

Another thing, let them watch Scott Hahn’s “The Fourth Cup”. It’s fascinating!

Pray! Pray that God will give them the grace to seek the truth. If someone is too lazy and indifferent to look at the Church or Christ, there is nothing you can do about it. Only by God’s grace will they convert.

Also, be a shining example of a Christian. Others will see you and that may be the best witness you may give.

my verbal skills are weak (probably why I like computers but this little tract was good intro to Catholicism for me, good summary & plenty of scripture references but the printed version has more text than the online version

having posted that, objectively looking at the “requirements” for Catholicism vs. mainstream protestants, it’s much much easier to “become” a protestant, just go to church, possibly attend some Sunday school classes & if you are really motivated you can actually read the bible

while to become a Catholic takes a little bit more effort

and there is always the Catholic Catechism, it’s teaching book to teach it’s follows what Christianity is all about

before actually wading into this book I thought it was collection of obscure Christian theology etc, but it is not. The catechism is basic Christianity, as if a collection of people had read the bible and boiled it down to basics so people can understand. what’s in the CCC ? 10 commandments, apostles creed, lords prayer, and of course some basic theology about GOD, sin, prayer, the sacrements etc

and having posted that I do see benefits to both approaches…

the Protestants get more people involved with theology & reading their bibles, but then nobody really knows who is a Christian because they all have their own interpretation, plus it’s easier for protestant denoms to convert new people because they just say “I believe” or something. while the Catholics have a much smaller percentage of people involved with doctrine, this allows it’s followers more time trying to live a Christian life

Evangelization is by definition inefficient. There is no technique that will incite desire for God.

I don’t agree with the first part of your statement, but I do the second. You can’t make or force people to be interested or curious about God, about why humans exist, about what happens after death and stuff like that. You just can’t force people to be interested in it if they are not already. However, as has been said, you can pray and strive to live by following Jesus.

It’s hard to believe that there is a huge number of people in the world that never think beyond the immediate, physical life, and they aren’t even curious about God, whether God exists, if there are other dimensions or heaven, all those metaphysical things. But, they exist!

Actually, the thing is that everyone has a desire for God - it says in the CCC that man is made to know and love God and that ‘only in God will [man] find the truth and happiness he never stops searching for’. So then the first part of evangelisation would be to draw this feeling that is in them, to the surface. Then the next part would be to explain to them that the God they seek is the God that we know and love.

Of course, I don’t know how to actually do any of this. Then again, I don’t know how to get anyone to listen to or co-operate with me on any issue - I am not a “people person”. I know that evangelisation is possible though.
