Does anyone know of a good source to study the attributes of God? Is anyone familiar with the newadvent.org website? What is your opinion? If there anything in the Cathechism of the Catholic Church about God’s attributes?

The Catechism enfolds this in its fine but exhaustive explanation of the Profession of Faith.

New Advent is an online Catholic encyclopedia, and expanded version beyond what the old bound versions could ever offer. I think it is orthodox, but whether or not it has what I happen to be looking for in the form I want it varies. I have heard you have to be careful about the advertising it allows, though…of the nuisance sort, I mean. You’ll want ad blockers.

I suggest the book Theology for Beginners by Frank Sheed.

NewAdvent is quite good.

The best resource that I can think of on God’s attributes is the classic one: , I, qq. 1-43Summa Theologiae. (The attributes as such start with q. 3, on divine simplicity.)

I realize that this is a huge reading assignment , so if you would like to start off a bit more slowly, you might try Frank Sheed’s Theology and Sanity, Part II about God.

Theology for Beginners is also fine, but Theology and Sanity has a more expanded part about the attributes.

New Advent is a great website, IMO.

You can certainly find writings on the attributes of God somewhere in all those resources (Catholic Encyclopedia, Summa Theologica, writings of the Church Fathers, etc.) – but personally, I need to know where to look rather than trying to sort through all that excellent material myself.

The owner of the website is a devout and brilliant Catholic man – he and his family live in the area and often attend my parish.
