Hi wonders, I have listened to most of this now. I think you did a pretty good job. The host, while fairly polite, kept using what I call “Screwtape” linguistics. Every time he challenged you on Job, he would say, isn’t it “dangerous” to think that God would do that? Or God plays “games”? Or any other term that avoids ever addressing the issue of is it “true” or “right or wrong”. This is the hallmark of the limited athiest mind. His whole soliloquy on praising Eve for “thinking for herself” was just bizarre. It was praise of defiance. Such a comment could only come from someone who does cannot see God as his superior. The “do what you want” attitude is actually the mantra of the church of Satan.
I think Dr. Peter Kreeft’s talk on suffering would enlighten him. The talk is geared toward suffering as it relates to God and addresses athiestic faith.
The only other point I would have added (and believe me, I am not criticizing you, I would probably stutter and goggle in an interview
) is the principle of comparing the suffering here to the joy of eternity. Job’s suffering is difficult, no doubt, but the testament of faith which he demonstrated by enduring it would result in an eternity of joy with the Father. As a sign of this, God restored his losses. Emery seemed to think this was no consolation because Job had lost his prior family and assets. His mind is too preoccupied with the things of this world. One of the deeper lessons of Job is the fleeting nature of the things of this world compared to God’s glory. Job would be a fool to endure the suffering with faith if not for the value of God’s glory as superior to the loss of things of this world.Make sense? Anyway, thanks for sharing!!
