Hi,

A friend and myself are reading Augustine’s “Christian Doctrine”. We are only on the preface, but Augustine already rips to shreds Lutheran and Protestant doctrine of Scripture alone. The preface can be read here : newadvent.org/fathers/12020.htm

I wanted to know what others of you think of this piece of writing?

I guess you can post here or in the other forum. I’m not sure the etiquette for transferring threads to other sections of CAF. But also, I am interested in studying and discussing the writings of the Church Fathers with others on these forums. Let me know if you are interested.

I have quoted from this work in another thread I’m slowly working on. Here you go, in case you are interested: Augustine and Calvin, the Scriptures and the Church. Posts 2 through 5 seek to outline the relationship between the Scriptures and the Church in the determination of Christian doctrine. The link in Post 6 of that thread is broken because someone got banned in the linked-to thread and they took the thread down. I can repost these additional thoughts on the Scriptures if you’d like. It’s just a litany of quotes about the Bible from the works of Augustine.

I’ve read this treatise, so if you’d like to talk about anything in it, let me know! I love Augustine.
