I’ve listened to it now, and agree more with the extracts from the article than I did at first.
He mentioned that Catholic services will have to accept un-Catholic laws, or close.
In Victoria we’ve already had a law that a doctor who is opposed to abortion must refer a patient to a doctor who will provide.
In England, Catholic adoption agencies closed because they became obliged to adopt out babies to same-sex couples.
In the wake of SSM, schools may soon be obliged to not teach Catholic marriage doctrine.
More and more such laws will gradually (or even quickly) make life difficult for Catholics. The analogy with Soviet Russia is apt, where religion was permitted, but with so many restrictions that it nearly died.
Australia, the UK, and most of the Commonwealth nations, have an important difference with the US. We’ve never had a “Bill of Rights”, instead relying on “common law”. Until recently we were happy to keep it that way, as we could assume good faith across society. Now that powerful segments do want to do away with freedoms we have nothing to protect us.
