It solves the problem much in the way that cutting off your legs rids you of a sore foot.

The Seal is inviolable. To break that undermines the purpose of Confession.
I think that things are going to change and priests will start to break the Seal, at least in Australia and maybe other countries later.

And if they do, they’re excommunicated and the Church is under persecution yet again.

The Australian Bishops Conference declared publically, yesterday, breaking the seal is not an option. And that would have come directly from the Magisterium

Even closed confessionals will really not make a difference. Say a suspect is being tailed by the cops and sees the suspect go into a closed confessional. As soon as the suspect leaves, the cop confronts the priest and demands, under this new law, that the priest tell what what was said. This is a likely scenario.
Cops don’t follow people into confession lines here.

What do you mean? If the police are following someone, what do they do if he goes to confession?

it was cradle catholic bringing up that scenario, perhaps ask that chatter what they mean in this context

Your “solution” says the priests will break the seal if they confess certain things.

After they have been warned. Then there is no seal to start with because the penitent has explicitly approve that this can be reported.

If I confess my sins and ask the priest to help me tell Mr X about it I’m giving approval to the priest to tell Mr X. If the priest then tells Mr X I don’t think that is breaking the seal. The penitent has waived his her right.

So far I haven’t heard a better solution if the law does become reality.

The only solution I heard is priests should defy authorities and act illegally.

I would love to hear anyone who has a better solution.

The priest is not even allowed to bring up to me outside the confessional unless I bring it up to him and tell him it all outside the confessional.

Somre priests also have the grace of forgetting whst is said in the confessional.

The better solution is for the government not to defy God’s law.

Yes, we may end up with a lot of jailed priests…

The Australian Bishops Conference has stated the seal is not going to be broken.

Exactly. My solutions satisfies both the church and the state. (If the laws get passed)

But it doesn’t satisfy the Church. The Church has been clear that the Seal is inviolable.

Ratio, I can put up a disclaimer saying

Enter at your own risk. Guard dogs on duty. Now if the guard dogs bite, I get charged

Not if you sign a waiver.

Lots of extreme sports have this waiver of rights.
