Australian contemplative life - Mature 40+ women?

I am wondering if anyone out there may know of a contemplative order(s) in Australia that considers mature age women who are 40+ as applicants? There are quite a few contemplative orders in the USA who do so, but none I know of here in Australia.

Sorry, I don’t know of any. As I discern my own possible vocation to the priesthood, it seems to me that religious life in Australia is pretty thin on the ground in general (especially compared with the US).

I will pray for you (all the way from QLD).

Barb, I know some of the Discalced Carmelite monasteries in the U.S. have accepted women over 40, so you should check with the various OCD monasteries in Australia:

There are Redemptoristine Nuns in Bolwarra Heights, Maitland, Australia, a cloistered contemplative Order. You can browse their web site at

I know that the Redemptoristines in USA (Esopus, NY and Liguori Mi) receive vocations beyon age 40. The main thing is not the age but that the person has the vocation.

Hi there,

I am not sure about for women, but my brother is friar of the Fransican Friars of the Immaculate in Perth. They do have a sister order, I think called the Poor Clares. Not sure where Perth is to you, but they may be able to help you find what you are looking for.
