Fellow Aussies, have any of you been to the Plenary Council info nights, working parties , or meetings yet?

We have had the facilitator going around the Diocese with th Vicar - General . They are doing a great job explaining the process and what the Bishops want from us leading up to Ash Wednesday 2019

Rome is guiding the process in discussion with the Bishops. There is no topic set yet. It will be set following identifying trends coming out of the submissions. And the world is watching this process. Our last Plenary Council was pre Vat 11. Academic papers are already being written on the process.

We listen for the Holy Spirit.

From Adelaide:

Our Priest mentioned it this Sunday and urged us to respond to the leaflets which have been put out.

We haven’t had any more information yet or working groups, etc. that I’m aware of.

My personal feeling is that the Church in Australia should be frank with itself that it is in serious decline in numbers and is aging. The reasons are as much to do with society and the hedonism of modern youth as the Church itself. The priest shortage is looming as a major crisis. The clerical abuse crisis is not our biggest problem and I hope the council doesn’t get over fixated on that.

These observations apply equally to the UK.
Only last night I was talking to a visiting priest who told us that in his home district there had been a stabbing that day. He rued the lack of discipline amongst youth in our society. We are bereft of ideas as to how to halt the slide to anarchy and worse. We all became instantly depressed.

The degeneration of our societies is frightening. We need strong people to lead us, people of integrity. We need to look back and rediscover the value in our past structures and perhaps update and utilise them once again I think. We are heading in the wrong direction and need to retrace our steps.
We must also pray for God’s mercy and assistance.

If you jump on the Plenary Council web page, you can tell them that in a submission. Lana said some people submit to her every week. You can do so by following the website submission form, and not filling every page in if you don’t want, or just sending a letter by snail mail.

It’s not really about the historic sex abuse, but about the church here in the future, what it should look like and how it should act and any change or attention to what we have forgotten or should revisit. Lana said also don’t be put off by going outside Canon Law in a submission. Just be guided by the Holy Spirit. The council will be made up of religious, clergy and laity.

Thanks @Roseeurekacross for the info that I can submit online. I’ll do that, and I’ll also mention it Hto our priest for a parish announcement. He just mentioned the leaflets. He’s very tech savvy so it’s a surprising oversight. (or maybe I wasn’t paying attention!)

Thanks for all that. I was in England recently and I felt the irreligion was almost palpable (as it is in Australia). The English are very attached to their history and traditions, but without the most important tradition of all it felt empty to me. Yes, we need strong leaders and a prayerful Church.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I agree.
I quite often use humour on here but I am very serious about Catholicism. We should always be aware that we are speaking publicly. It’s easy to forget that.

That’s a really kind thing to think, thank you.
We do enjoy being Aussie don’t we @Roseeurekacross .
You know why she calls herself that, don’t you, @adgloriam ?
Eureka Stockade saw the first event supporting the rights of Individuals, specifically the rights of the gold miners during the Australian gold rushes…a little kick against injustice … and the Cross in her forum name undoubtedly refers to the Southern Cross, a star constellation above Australia in the shape of a Christian cross, which is represented on our national flag. She’s announcing her loyalties in her forum name, beauty, justice …with a touch of daring … and her loyalty and celebration of the Cross of Christ. She’s true blue. We have our faults, but we’re fair dinkum.

Thank you for the lovely post @Trishie I really liked it 🙂 I didn’t know about any of that, although I had wondered about @Roseeurekacross screen name about every time I see it. I will read into that part of Australians history and I find it really funny that you Aussies read into things that way. You are very fair dinkum dear friends.

God bless and a lovely Sunday to you all.
