Is it working (the lockdown)? Lower cases/deaths for them?
Although there is the factor that letting people out for longer in the sun decreases chances of a severe case. I wonder how much better it would’ve been if this was told earlier.

Noone is allowed to just sit around outside. She knows that. Its lockdown. She is no more special then anyone else. We all want to get back to some sort of Covid normal.

I did remark in another thread regarding the authoritarian environment heading toward totalitarian in that venue. The only thing that stops the totalitarian trend is the next election. If it’s allowed to take place. I’d be alarmed if I heard the word “delayed” in connection with that.

Its not about elections in Victoria. Dan Andrews has a lot of support for what he is doing in respect to the virus. You dont hear about that though. Only about people who loudly complain because its warming up and they cant sit on the beach, or they dont want to wear a mask in public.
Its about the knocking this virus out. We are having a very high death vs infection rate. We also have a high rate of infection in young people. NSW is starting to have a few clusters and issues and will have to do something more to contain it.

Does he have that much support for destroying the economy? Because that is what’s happening there as it happened here.
Are your young people dying at a higher rate than here? Here our rate of people under 50 dying from this is a very low percentage of total deaths. Which is why I’ve objected strongly to stopping young people from making a living here.

Do people have to die from this for it to be the only relevant statistic. That is a false metric. Covid is spreading fastest through young people. They are getting really sick from it too. Watch some youtube of people who caught it and survived.
Where are you? How many hospitals do you have? How many health workers can you afford to put in iso at one time, How many wards can you shut at one time? How many other health issues can you safely put off dealing with because Covid is taking all the resources. How many food businesses and groceries can you afford to shut because Covid positive people led to closure and deep cleaning.
Young people need to be protected just as much as old people, especially young people who are working to keep things going in a variety of different businesses. What about children, they catch it and pass it on too.

Then it seems to be hitting your country differently.
In the US, young people under 50 are not dying in numbers that are anywhere near close to scary. They don’t need the protection that the old and vulnerable do; our protection resources need to go to that demographic as they represent most of our hospitalizations and deaths. Over 40% of our deaths occurred in long term care facilities. Hence to say that the young people are just as affected by this is simply not represented in the data.

Under 18: just 88 Covid deaths
Under 30: just 853 Covid deaths
Under 50: just 8877 Covid deaths
Before people start screaming even that’s too much, one might consider total deaths from all causes which are also in that table at the link:
Under 18: 18631 deaths from all causes
Under 30: 54k deaths from all causes
Under 50: 178k deaths from all causes
Remember this is a population of 330m with wide variations on the degree of shutdowns and distancing in a country that has allegedly totally blown it if you were to listen to the negative nellies.
Heck, young people are not even getting hospitalized in “scary” numbers. I posted this yesterday but no one wants to go there.
So as I said, it must be hitting your country differently.

For my state , Victoria, today there are 45 new infections and 5 deaths. I think yesterday we had 28 new cases and 8 deaths.
It is a virulent and deadly strain.
Regional Victoria is now allowed some freedom, there is no travel allowed between Melbourne and regional Victoria though. Mass in Regional Victoria is not yet on but the Bishops and Archbishops are in discussion with the Premier about how we can have Mass in regional Victoria again now. That is because businesses have opened back up with certain provisos.
