Authority of parents

How much authority do parents have over their children? Just curious here, because I’ve never heard a proper definition of it. How long do parents maintain this authority? How far over the actions or lives of their children does it extend?

any recommendations on reading regarding relationships with siblings? I have a sister with whom I choose to no longer have interaction. I love her, of course, but when we interact it seems to be a rather toxic relationship (in my opinion). I’m curious if I have an obligation, other than forgiveness of trespass.
Any advice would be welcomed.
