Auxiliary Bishop Binzer failed to report multiple complaints about a priest’s inappropriate behavior over a several year period. This essentially left Archbishop Schnurr and the priest personnel board in the dark regarding the priest’s past behaviors.

Thankfully, there doesn’t seem to be any evidence of child abuse. However, it’s still an incredibly scandalous situation. Binzer has been removed as head of priest personnel effective immediately, and the reportedly livid Archbishop is considering further disciplinary action.

Even though I’m Maronite (although I grew up Roman), I live within the juridical boundaries of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Archbishop Schnurr is the best thing that’s happened to Cincinnati in decades. He’s actually concerned for the well-being of the Church and, more importantly, the souls entrusted to him.

I get the same impression from him as well. I really like Archbishop Schnurr.

As do I. Among other things, he’s going to great lengths to promote Pope St. John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” in the Archdiocese.

Just to clarify my original post, Bishop Binzer failed to report these accusations to his superior, Archbishop Schnurr, as well as the priest personnel board, which makes decisions regarding priestly assignments around the Archdiocese.

Bishop Binzer did contact the proper civil authorities, who determined that no criminal activity had taken place. Still, Bishop Binzer kept this information from his superior, Abp. Schnurr.
