Have you attended a Catholic Wedding Mass where the Ave Maria was sung?

Are we talking about Schubert or Bach/Gounod? or one of the many other versions?
I think the Schubert one is the most popular.

I think people are probably talking about the Schubert, but the Bach-Gounod is better. Maybe precisely because it’s not so over-used.

Yes, it was sung at our wedding, when we presented our bouquet to Our Lady and made our consecration.

Every time. I can play it in 7 different keys.
Tell me about it. I’ve got a little booklet here, and it’s got Schubert’s in 9 different keys altogether, plus several variations like Lizst’s arrangement.

Not a single wedding goes by that I’ve played for where an Ave Maria was not sung, other than the Anglican ones.

LOL.
Pet peeve:
Soloists who sing:
A…ve…Mar.i…BIG BREATH…I…ah.

Drive me nuts.

Nope, haven’t heard it or sung it at a wedding - yet. I can’t think of a more appropriate song, however, the “Hail Mary” in Latin, invoking the Blessed Virgin’s intercession at the start of a marriage.

Yes, many times, and all versions. Sometimes beautifully, sometimes not.

Often.

Although I admit to being in a minority of those who dislike the song. I find it used as an opportunity for a soloist to show off the vocal chords and I really, really dislike the vibrato as it is sung usually.

I have heard it many times, as have most of the others who have answered you query, and I have sung it, too. It is kind of a small “t” tradition, at least at America Catholic weddings. I am curious, though, why are you asking this?
