Looks nice, but anything would have been an improvement over the greenhouse they were proposing. Nevertheless, I suspect that the school is too troubled to get it built.

I’m bummed that due to cost restrictions he had to go from a 3,300 capacity church to a 1,100 seat church. I understand his original goal was to make the largest Catholic church in the nation.

But I do like the design.

Looks good - sort of colorless but on the other hand maybe that is attractive! The ceiling design puts me in mind of a fishing net which would be appropriate dontcha think?

All in all, crucifix above the altar and the shape of things - if they throw in an altar rail and some kneelers - they have a winner!

Look closely…altar rail is definitely present! The picture I posted is not as clear as the one on Ave Maria U’s web site. Follow the link for more detailed pictures.

Looks better than this proposed one.

The first picture looks like a water tower that’s had the sheet metal blown off it from the wind, and the second picture looks like you’re sitting in the belly of a whale and looking up at his ribcage.

Bring back Gothic architechture. At least a Gothic church looks like a church.

Wow! How beautiful! You have to click on the link to see the other great pictures. I will have another place to visit - The Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville, AL and now the Ave Maria Cathedral in Ave Maria, Fla!

Dear Benedictus,

Would you please tell us if you are a financial supporter of Ave Maria University in Naples?

Thanks, 🙂

Anna

My 9 year old saw commercials for Ave Maria on EWTN and wants to attend that school when she’s older. After seeing the new chapel, I’m going with her! (That is, if she can manage to get through grade school :o )

not to speak for Benedictus… but TM lost a lot of supporters in Michigan after all the broken promises. Hopefully the Law School will continue to be self supportive and not need any TM hammer over its head.

I wouldn’t take a drop of gratitude away from Tom M.

Its not easy to pull off all the things he has done - the Law School alone in Ann Arbor has made me a big fan. High finance and making it all come out as you pray and hope for? Please - the small potatoes I have had to work with have often fell short of the mark.
I think what he has attempted and accomplished is pleasing to Our Lord - struggling may be what is most pleasing (I hope that is so) cause I am real good at that! Anyway, my hats off to him! %between%

In some ways you are correct. However, the only, repeat only, real contribution he made to the Law School was his $50 million. The real credit goes to the ones who had the idea, put their credibility and money on the line, and founded the school. TM’s money made it happen faster. They made it happen better. The college(s) are another story. Too many good people bought into TM’s plan, went to Michigan on a promise, gave it their all, and then were “informed” that the Florida swampland held more promise for his vision.

His money… his choice. He has said he wants to die poor, and many would like to see that dream come true. But I question his motives at times. Personally I will remember him for his pizza and the Tigers (by the way it was the team that won the championship right after he bought them…not TM). And when the price was right $56 Million to $86 million, he sold them.

I’m going to be lazy and ask you instead of doing my own research: what troubles are there that might prevent this?

Personally, while the new plans look better than what was put forward originally, I still do not like it.

Being way out here in the West I haven’t kept pace with the troubles Ave Maria is having in MI and FL. What’s the scoop?

i agree. while it is an improvement, it still looks funny. but much better then that church in-the-rounds deal in oakland. B16 is totally opposed to that style of church which closes the liturgy on itself. he claims that there is a cosmic direction to the liturgy that is neglected today.

i think the church is not that nice because it is all about what the domino pizza guy wants -but, he is paying for it.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture of the new plans was CLOCK.
