I know this is a really awkward question, but please forgive me. I suffer from a pregnancy fetish that I believe I have had since I was at least a toddler, possibly since I was born. This is usually little more than an annoyance, but some prayers, parts of the Bible, and the Joyful Mysteries can be a near occasion of sin for me. I have been avoiding the Joyful Mysteryies because of this as I have been trying harder to actually meditate on the Mysteries. The Hail Mary can also be an issue if I really think about certain parts of the prayer.

What should I do? I know the Rosary is a private devotion so avoiding a Mystery shouldn’t be a problem I don’t think.

While I enjoy the rosary, and find the rosary to be a beautiful prayer, if you have problems remember that the rosary is a private devotion, and it is not mandatory that we pray it. There are many different private and public devotions that we can participate in, and we should use those which are most effective in helping us to develop a beautiful and meaningful spiritual relationship with the Lord.

On another note, you might find it helpful to find a spiritual director and possibly a psychiatrist. I can say from personal experience that I had some severe struggles with certain sins in my life, and I was not able to overcome them until I had developed a a strong prayer life, and relationship with our Lord. And to this day I am at my weakest when I have lapses in my spiritual life. And I honestly hope that you can overcome this because our Holy Mother can bring us so much closer to her Son.

You could certainly try that and see if it helps you, but I’d be skeptical. Such avoidance doesn’t sound to me like a way to develop a healthy view of pregnancy.

You are correct that it is a personal devotion. You can pray it as you please. If it truly causes you to sin, then you can avoid the joyful mysteries.

You could also avoid focusing on the pregnancy part and instead, fix your focus on other aspects of each mystery:

1 Annunciation- Focus on the fact that Mary is revealed to be “full of grace” and the uniqueness of her as God’s most perfect creature. Also focus on her obedience to God, and the fact that God became man.
2 Visitation- Focus on the fact that the first person to recognize Jesus is an unborn child.
3 The Nativity- Focus on the amazing humility of Jesus, coming into this world completely helpless and dependent upon the protection and nurturing of his parents.

The other two mysteries shouldn’t present a problem for you.

During the Joyful Mysteries focus not on the mystery but on the prayers, specifically the words in the prayers (Our Father/Hail Mary) then during the Sorrrowful, Glorious and Luminous mysteries meditate on the actual mystery.

Remember what Padre Pio said, if I stopped saying the Rosary every time I was distracted I would have never finished even one.

FYI it is said that at times he prayed up to 33 Rosary’s per day.

By all means, then just pray the Glorious and Sorrowful. Although, if the Hail Mary is a problem, that would be difficult getting through a rosary.

I think I’ve heard everything now.
Please see a competent therapist for your issues.
Our Lady would be most dismayed to know that you believe prayers with her cause you to sin.

By all means ignore the above post, God and Our Lady understand that sin comes in all forms, and temptations especially when it comes to things dealing with the defilement or desecration or simply impurity of our holy Rosary comes directly from the Satan.

Our Lady is not dismayed, nor is she disappointed, she has nothing but mercy and love for you! Keep strong brother, keep praying and trust in God that He will help you overcome your temptations, deliver you from evil and bring you into everlasting life.

Sorta. We don’t need to judge the OP, since he clearly didn’t ask to be saddled with this unfortunate fixation, but the advice to see a therapist is not bad. They might be able to help him get at the root of this and maybe get past it.

I guess you haven’t read the dozens of posts from him, refusing to get a Spiritual Director, and ignoring all advice by everyone. 🤷
This young man needs serious help. But keep telling him that everything is just fine.

Well I don’t see where I said everything was just fine, maybe you can point that out to all of us, but anyway, I hardly think telling someone that the Blessed Mother is very dismayed with their sins is helpful. In fact I think it is contrary to the faith and to the teachings of the Church, ESPECIALLY, on Divine Mercy Sunday I seriously doubt God wants us to spread a message of His or the Blessed Mothers disappointment, disapproval of dismay with His children.

No, I think, not only today, but always it is incredibly important to emphasize God’s Divine Mercy. As Jesus says “go I am disappointed in you” right? No He says “go and sin no more” of course after forgiveness and healing, compassion and love and His Divine Mercy…

So back to the author, take whatever suggestions are best for you, whatever helps you in your journey the most and try to sin no more. It will be difficult, there will be struggles and failures, but like Jesus on the way of the cross, always get back up, always keep fighting on, run the race, and focus on God’s Mercy. That’s the only thing that will save you, me, and all of us, for none of us are without need of His Divine Mercy. In fact I’d be willing to bet my next paycheck I’m a worse sinner than most all of us on this website, but I believe in God’s mercy, and you need to as well…

You are a male, correct? What is a “pregnancy fetish” - you mean sexual thoughts upon viewing pregnant women? If so, how do the mere words trigger a fetish?

If this isn’t trolling, it requires serious long term (name removed by moderator)atient care. In my opinion.

I am indeed a male. The “pregnancy fetish” makes me attracted/aroused by women who are pregnant. Before I was a Catholic, I used to view sinful images/videos of this nature until I found God, and then I quite cold turkey (I think.)

As a visual person, I pray the rosary visually. I read the scriptural rosary bits while praying the Hail Marys. That helps me to see the events in my mind so I can meditate on them. Also as a result, mere words can conjure up images in my mind. This is why I have trouble saying a Hail Mary, only if I really think about the Hail Mary though, and the Joyful Mysteries. They bring back the sinful images/videos from my memory. It’s impossible to burn “photographs” that your mind has taken.

God helps those who help themselves. Avoidance is just burying problems.

Please understand that this isn’t an insult. Just offering some thoughts.

First, this doesn’t make you a bad person or anything. It’s definitely odd, but it’s not actually dangerous. You’re not attracted to children or the idea of inflicting pain or anything. I’m not suggesting you indulge this fetish, just saying that you don’t necessarily need to check yourself into a psychiatric facility.

That said, you really could benefit from seeing a therapist or something. Also, you seem to ask a lot of questions here, and then lose interest and ignore the advice. Have you ever considered therapy of some kind?

Pianistclare, you are spot on, as usual. I lack your patience. God bless you.
