Glory to Jesus Christ!

I found this amazing version of Tantum Ergo on youtube. It’s from Corsica. The user who posted this has a lot of music from the early Latin Tradition, much of it Pre-Schism.

Here is some more:

Ambrosian Chant - Ecce apertum est Templum tabernaculi
Old Roman Chant -Qui habitat in adiutorio altissimi
Mozarabic Chant - Alleluia

Here is a link to all this user’s videos.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the chanting is similar to Orthodox chanting. The Corsican one sounds a lot like Georgian chant, IMO. I wish the the majority of Latin Catholics would see what a beautiful patrimony they have. This music is heavenly and inspiring. Please share your comments, experiences, etc. I would love to know what you all think of these hymns.

In Christ,
Andrew

BTW: Does anyone know where I might be able to find it, whether on CD or mp3?

I feel quite attached to the Mozarbic chant. I’d seen/heard it before, but it’s nice to encounter it again, and it is indeed very beautiful, as are the others. The ensemble that did them, for any who don’t know, is Ensemble Organum, organized by the musical genius Marcel Peres sometime back in the 80s. They’ve done many CDs by this point, each dedicated to a reconstruction of this or that pre-schism chant form in the Church. As such, most sound very Eastern.

Strangely, the only CD of theirs I’ve managed to find is “Chant Des Templiers” (which are obviously not pre-schism), which you can hear a bit of in this video. Still intensely beautiful, as is everything they’ve done.

I am really addicted to Ensemble Organum. Love their work. Wish the church would revive this tradition. The harmonies are magnificent.

I agree! I think they’re absolutely spiritually uplifting. It’s sad to think that there are those in our culture who would rather prefer happy clappy songs or rock and roll over these beautiful prayers. After all, I believe it was St. Augustine and probably some others who said, “he who sings prays twice.” 😉

In Christ,
Andrew

I’d consider myself lucky if I was that baby; it’d cut down on all the time I wasted on truly awful music while I was still trying to find my niche!

Let’s see, my father loves his classic rock. My brother likes indie/techno kind of stuff. My mother loves Andrea Bocelli gag, Il Divo more gagging and occasionally a bit of Shostakovich (Strange much?). So I guess it was my mother who introduced me to classical because of that tiny, random slither of good taste in her CD collection.
