My pro-choice non-Catholic future MIL has come around to NFP
She may not be pro-choice or non-Catholic forever thenâŚMy pro-choice non-Catholic future MIL has come around to NFP![]()
Forgive my playing devilâs advocate here for a sec, but âcome aroundâ how?My pro-choice non-Catholic future MIL has come around to NFP![]()
This is a mother-in-law, remember? Is she accepting of your using it? In which case, why is that any of her business?
Maybe Iâm the only person who doesnât have a mother in law who asks specific questions about our sex life? This is a mother-in-law, remember?![]()
Naww, there are tons of great MILâs out there, unfortunately thereâs just a ton of ones who fit the nosy stereotype, too.Maybe Iâm the only person who doesnât have a mother in law who asks specific questions about our sex life?
Thereâs still a bit of a line between âWhy donât we have grandkids yet?â and âWhat types of birth control are you using?âNaww, there are tons of great MILâs out there, unfortunately thereâs just a ton of ones who fit the nosy stereotype, too.
In some families, the form of birth control being used is openly discussed. Doesnât necessarily mean the MIL is nosy. For many people, talking about NFP is even a form of evangelization.Thereâs still a bit of a line between âWhy donât we have grandkids yet?â and âWhat types of birth control are you using?â
This is what Iâm worried about. Maybe âworriedâ is a bit strong of a word, but you know what I mean. Itâs not that the MIL was being nosy, but that the OP was being pushy. For many people, talking about NFP is even a form of evangelization.
First off, thereâs not enough information in the original post. As far as I can tell, thereâs not even a relevant previous thread that can explain the situation. After I asked for a clarification, everybody else, including myself, has tried to fill in details â but not the OP. I still donât really know what she meant by âcoming around to NFPâ. We can assume and imply and hypothesize all we want, but until the OP chimes in, we just donât know.@kerebos: or, perhaps, dear kerebos, you could not rain on sanctamariaâs parade, hmm? She is sharing joyous good news. She is not praying in a vainglorious way, so I do not see Mt.6:6 as applying. Rather, apparently, she is attempting to be a light unto the nations, and to have a reason for her hope. Why not assume the best in charity?
It wouldnât surprise me that non-Catholic, pro-choice people may not fully understand NFP or think that itâs just âthe rhythm methodâ rebranded, but once they learn whatâs all involved that theyâll agree that thereâs more to it than just praying you donât get pregnant. It would surprise me, however, if he quickly convinced her that NFP was the only way to space pregnancies and condoms and the pill were wrong for everybody else too.I wasnât the one who spoke with her. My intended was talking with her. She has worked in health care and mentioned it to my fiance as a note of concern. He told her what we had learned and she ended up finding a secular source that advocated for it. She admitted a change of mind.
