I don’t know if anyone posted this already but this is something we should all celebrate and for those of you who love chant, please consider funding this project!

“He who sings, prays twice.” As St. Augustine preached on Psalm 72, “He who sings praise, is not only singing, but also loving the one to whom he is singing.” Help a friar to sing and pray well by supporting this project!
The Hymnarium O.P. is a hymnal for the Liturgy of the Hours that makes available the Dominican heritage of liturgical hymnody. It is being published by the Liturgical Commission of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph in response to our 2010 Provincial Chapter’s wish that “the Dominican and wider Gregorian Chant traditions in the Conventual Mass and Office” and the desire of the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council that chant “be given pride of place in liturgical services.”
We are in the process of the final preparation of the volume for production. Now we are now looking to rally support for this new project.
The Hymnarium presents hymns for Sundays and weekdays throughout the year, the Proper of Time, the Proper of Saints (including proper hymns for many Dominican saints), and the Common of Saints. The texts of the Hymnarium are derived from the Breviarium O.P. of 1952 and the Irish Dominican Breviary of 1967. Each hymn is provided in Latin and English versions set to a limited variety of chant melodies that are reused on various occasions throughout the book.
Donations of $25 or more will receive a copy of the Hymnarium. All benefactors will be included in the intention for a Mass celebrated at St. Peter’s in Rome.

Please check out the different parts of the site (there is music and audio) and contribute if you feel led.

Thanks!

P.S. Not sure if this should have gone in the trad forum!

Thank you for the very kind words. We’ve been gratified–and a bit surprised–by the incredible amount of interest this project has generated. We’ve only been seeking support for a few days, and we’re already 2/3 of the way there.

But we still need help in reaching our goal! If you haven’t donated yet, please consider doing so. Even if you can’t donate, please consider letting other people know. It’s amazing what a single email, or a Tweet, or a link on Facebook or Google+ will do.

To donate, please see our Rally site: rally.org/hymnarium/donate
To see more about the Hymnarium, see the website: hymnarium.org

Thanks again for your prayers and support.

Fr. Pius, OP

God bless you!

It looks like they reached their goal!

Thanks to all who contributed!

We did! And in record time. We only went public with this on Wednesday, and it was fully funded on Sunday.

In the old Dominican Rite, the first Sunday of October was Rosary Sunday. It’s still observed in various ways in many places. I don’t think it’s any coincidence that we reached our goal on Rosary Sunday.

Mary, Queen of the Rosary, pray for us!
