This morning I was in the bathroom and from the kitchen I heard my mom and my brother having their typical mean-spirited arguments. Without thinking about it I went into prayer, the problem was I was praying while sitting on the toilet. Is the offensive and sinful to God?

God is always present with us, and besides He is the one who designed us to have to use the bathroom, etc. There is no bodily function that grosses Him out or offends Him so that He would not be willing to hear from us during that time. There is nothing so private that God Himself must not be spoken to at that time. I don’t think God has the same bashfulness about our bodily functions that we often do.

“Pray without ceasing.” You don’t have to cease praying or refrain from it just because you’re doing something that you’d keep private from another human being. God is not merely another human being. He’s always there. You’ve done nothing wrong.

Blessings in Christ,

Short answer: no.

Praying to God is never, ever, ever, ever a sin.

Whether you know it or not, you are following a good example. Saint Teresa of Avila was once doing just what you did, and the Devil tried to make her think it was wrong. She replied (I’m paraphrasing here) that the prayers were for God-he could have the rest!
You’re doing just fine.
