Although, one could say, if you choose to go golfing instead, and anyone asks later, “well, auntie didn’t want a three year old at the shower… so I assumed…” But, from my experience, assumptions don’t tend to go over very well…

IMO you now need to contact the host (even if just an SMS) to let her know of this change.

No, she just means she will not have to say, “Well, if I can’t bring her, I don’t know…maybe I won’t be able to come after all.” She can instead say, “If it will be any problem at all, I can get a sitter. Just tell me what works for you.”
