Awkwardness with wine

I only recently started taking the wine at communion and to be honest, I feel like I’m awkward at it. I feel like I’m grabbing the cup wrong, drinking it wrong, and just the general feeling. So mind helping me out so I don’t feel so awkward?

Currently I say “Amen” prior to taking the cup. (Correct, right?) After that is there a special way you grab the cup or is it just take it as is easiest to hold and then a small sip. Then walk away with the standard sign of the cross.

That all sounds fine. It probably just seems weird because it’s new to you.

Just keep in mind that it is not wine, but the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord. 😉
 
just walk past the LEM wine person if youre not comfortable with it

you get everything you need from/with the host

A LEM is a Lay Ecclesial Minister.
A person distributing the Precious Blood is an EMHC. Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. 🙂

i just try try to hold the cup as carefully as possibly and try extra special not to “fumble” handing it back

so far so good 🙂

i like taking the wine because it reminds me of the seriousness of what i am doing

How long ago was your instruction on recieving?
 
13/14 years ago in 2nd grade. That coupled with not really having attended Mass regularly, though I’ve started to as of late, is why I asked.

I pass the Precious Blood because I’m not comfortable drinking out of the same cup as a bunch of other people.
 
A small tip. Grab or hold the cup where the LEM is not holding it and give it back the same way. 😉 For me that is generally hand at the bottom of the chalice (bottom of the stem) and the top of the stem. The LEM where I go generally has the top of the bowl section and some part of the stem. Hope this helps.
