Babies At Mass

Crying rooms are filled with adults who came to Mass late, which makes it very difficult to bring your kids there.
They should be escorted to a seat in the main.

My hubby is volunteering to be an Usher starting this weekend. After what our friends went through in the cryroom, he is asking if he can start Ushering the cryroom first…

They should be escorted to a seat in the main.
You can only do that if there are seats left in the main.

At my church we don’t have a cryroom but we are told to take our kids into the foyer that is seperated from the main church by glass doors. You can still see and hear from there but guess where the first place to fill up is when the main church is full. You guessed it the foyer. So your options when you kids act up are:
a) to stay in your seat
b) to go into the foyer, where people are already upset they are not seated so a screaming kid makes things even worse
c) outside into the 30 degree cold

I personally always pick the foyer, unless my kid is really screaming.

Of course all the local churches near me have the same thing happen with the cry rooms, once the main church fills up the cry room next fills up.

Thank you for saying that I was trying to think of a charitable way to address that post and you hit the nail on the head.
No, she didn’t.
She just justified the behaviors that caused the problems in the first.
The babies do not need to be at Mass. If the parents refuse to use the crying room they are glorying in their dilemma and that really bothers me.
CLEAN the crying room, for Heaven’s sake! I can’t believe that the mothers are too lazy to clean up after their own kids and leave a smelly room!
If everyone pitches in the rooms can be very nice.
If they are smelly that means that someone (read the parents!) are failing to do their fair share.

How do you know they are a troll? They may have been over whelmed by the outpouring of comments directed against him. I am in numerous groups and sometimes people who are not used to being on forums get a little taken aback by the comments…BTW what does that have to do with his comments which are right on in my book.

:heart:Blyss
The poster who called the other poster a troll is just engaging in mindless name-calling.
After I’ve been here awhile I’ll figure out which ones do this and put the on block.
This, btw, is the second incident of name-calling that I have identified in this forum.
Interesting, but definitely NOT nice behavior.

If anyone feels that the crying room is being misused, then be proactive. Come up with a plan of action, talk to other parents in the parish about the state of affairs, involve the priest and the DRE. Be the change you want to see so to speak.

Just to clarify, the term troll in the case of a forum or newsgroup isn’t a noun, it’s a verb. Look up trolling or troll as related to fishing. You pull a lure or bait behind the boat, and wait to see what bites. So there was no name calling, there was only defining an action.

God expects us to be proactive to solve problems. Prayer is great! And we have to take the grace we receive to find a solution to lack of room for parishioners, stinky cryrooms filled with toys and rude adults who socialize in those rooms.

I volunteer to clean the bathrooms at our parish. I could pray to my hearts content that they will be clean when I walk in or that the toilet will not be stopped up in the men’s room, but God seems to feel that I can take the ball on the situation.

Yes, the Holy Spirit could come down and unstop the potty, but I haven’t seen it yet.

When it comes to the internet, the Noun is at the bottom.

From Here…isp.webopedia.com/TERM/T/troll.html

WHO says babies don’t need to be at mass? Not Jesus. Not my Priest. Not the majority of the posters here. Pretty much everyone has agreed that babies SHOULD be at mass - we just disagree over how parents should respond when they make noise - as all babies do. Some posters feel that families with noisy children should sit in the back - but I don’t think anyone suggested the kids aren’t welcome at mass? (except you?)

I wonder if Mary had to sit in the “cry room” with Jesus?

If you read through the thread you’ll see that there are several reasons why someone wouldn’t want to sit in the cry room - not only because of the smell (dirty diapers on babies IN the room) & the noise. (those are my main reasons). Our cry room is quite small … am I really going to cart my five kids into that room? Our family would take up half of the seats. I suppose I could park my other kids, alone in the pew & sit with the baby in the cry room. They would hate that though - they actually enjoy sitting as a “family” at mass. No thanks… I’ll pass on the cry room idea.

You’re assuming all parishes have a cry room.

Gasp! Wonder what they did with the babies in 1910, before cry rooms were invented?
If the parents refuse to use the crying room they are glorying in their dilemma****…
A bit judgemental here? Yeah, I’m sure most parents with infants and toddlers feel like they are glorifying in their dilemma.
and that really bothers me.
Exactly. It bothers YOU, therefore it is YOUR problem. 👍

tehn preay tell who is going to watch them while mom and dad are at Mass…do you mean I should leave my babies at home by themselves?

Hmm…our church does not have a cry room/isolation room (THANKS to GOD:) )
so what do you suggest that my family do? leave the babies at home with the toddlers while we attend mass or skip mass till the kids are teenagers?
