Excuse me, but I refuse to take “blame” for anything that I didn’t do, or for something that I neglected to do after somebody with a judgmental penchant decided I should have done. I definitely offer more support to animal-care-based organizations than to pro-life causes. I have good, valid, loving personal reasons for doing so. We can judge each other forever because we don’t support each other’s favorite causes. But I think we’re negating a lot of Christianity when we do so. There’s nothing in the Caholic catechism that says we have to support one cause more than another. We each have only so much in the way of resources. How dare you tell me where I should put mine to use.

I love all animals, even human wee baby animals. I hate to see anything harmed. BUT I really do think you have your priorities skewed quite a bit. In fact, since I can’t really afford to give to both types of charities, ie humane for animals and pro life for children, I have chosen to give only to the pro life charities. Gee whiz, if we don’t have humans around, who would take care of the animals? Isn’t that what God gave us charge of in the Garden of Eden? :bounce:

The conscience bit doesn’t carry much weight with me when it isn’t backed up by absolute truth and the teachings of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. You are right, people act as they will, and although I won’t judge them and say they are going to Hell for their decisions, I can and will judge their actions. To put ANY other animals (which I do love) above the rights of unborn babies to live is a travesty and an injustice.

Intolerance of evil is Christian at its most basic root.

The problem is that our main stream media would never take the politically incorrect risk of showing such pictures. One encouraging note though, the New York Times ran an article recently showing pictures of aborted babies while interviewing the lady (forgot her name) who took the pictures. Of course no other public media newspaper covered it.

Good for you! I wonder if those who whine and rant against animal rights actually get up and physically do anything to help abused people/children/girls and women in unfortunate situations.

I have seen many touching TV ads about the pro life cause, and heard radio ads as well. Usually around election time we see more of them. I agree that we should not care about kittens and puppies more than about babies and moms, but that doesn’t mean we should stop caring about the kittens and puppies!! They are all God’s creatures and we have a responsibility to them as well.

I don’t think anyone on this thread who advocates babies are more important than other animals has said that we don’t have the responsibility to care for all animals. In fact I have one of them cuddled up right next to me as I write this. He rules. But let’s just get our values and priorities straight.

I came across a flyer this morning which contained the following old man’s testimony. It speaks to us all, and in a particular way to those who may be discouraged into feeling helpless, divided, confused, or ineffective in regard to abortion.

“I lived in Germany during the Nazi holocaust. I considered myself a Christian. I attended church since I was a boy. We had heard the stories of what was happening to the Jews, but like most people today in this country, we tried to distance ourselves from it. After all, what could we do to stop it? A railroad track ran behind our small church. Each Sunday morning we would hear the whistle from a distance and then the clacking of the wheels moving over the track. We became disturbed when one Sunday we noticed cries coming from the train as it passed by. We grimly realized that the train was carrying Jews. They were like cattle in those cars! Week after week that train whistle blew. We would dread to hear the sound of those old wheels because we knew that the Jews would begin to cry out to us as they passed our church. It was so terribly disturbing! We could do nothing to help these poor miserable people, yet their screams tormented us. We knew exactly what time that whistle would blow, and we decided that to keep from being so disturbed by the cries we would start singing our hymns. By the time the train came rumbling past our church, we were singing at the top of our voices. If some of the screams reached our ears, we would just sing a little louder until we couldn’t hear them. Years have passed and no one talks about it much anymore, but I still hear that train whistle in my sleep. I can still hear them crying out for help. God forgive all of us who called ourselves Christians, yet did nothing. Now so many years later, I see it happening all over again in America. God forgive you as Americans for blocking out the screams of millions of your own children. The holocaust is here. The response is the same as it was in my country–Silence!”

The flyer then went on to remind us that everyone can do at least something:

"If the Christians in the old man’s church had done something, they probably would have been killed. That is not the case with us today. We don’t even have that excuse for our silence.

What can I do?

1. Pray for an end to abortion.
2. Wear the “Precious Feet” pin. It is the exact size and shape of an unborn baby’s feet at 10 weeks.
3. Volunteer your time with Pro-Life groups or Pregnancy Care Centers and support them financially.
4. Start a Pro-Life group at your church.
5. Share your convictions with your children and grandchildren.
6. Donate Pro-Life books, videos or fetal models to local libraries and schools.
7. Participate in Pro-Life events being held in your community."

Whatever we do, let’s not just “sing a little louder” and excuse ourselves from meaningful action. Even if all we can do is pray, prayer alone is meaningful action.

I think that you need to ask that question of someone who actually feels that way. Since this is a Catholic forum, and most of us are Catholics here, I don’t think any of us can answer that.

Marfran, you have forgotten those “catholics” who don’t think they have the right/obligation to push their morals on others. You know, the ones who helped get the present POTUS in office?

It must be great to be so clear about everything I strive and struggle everyday. Where did our conscience come from? I thought it came from God. Evl is hidden in the most innocuous of wors and actions.

For a long time I have been greatly bothered by some advertisements of TV. They have these heart breaking ads on poor neglected animals. The background music is very touching. I have never seen an ad about aborted babies or babies who have been neglected by their parents.

I have a strong feeling that these same people asking for our help to save these animals also think that killing our little human beings is fine and a worthwhile help to save the world of over population.

I just can’t understand how anyone would place the value of an animal over the life of a human being. Of course we should take care of animals and not allow them to be harmed or neglected, but it seems to me that our nation has their priorities very confused.

This has been on my mind for a long time and wondered how others feel about this issue.

I have seen several public service messages in the area in which I live. They state something like “Choose Life” while showing babies. So they do exist. OTOH I can’t remember ever seeing a public sevice message re animals. I have also seen billboards with definite prolife messages, not to mention anti-prejudice messages.

I remember one public service message I saw which showed a dog shivering in the rain, trying to find shelter. It was a tear jerker. I became very sad while I watched it because my heart goes out to any suffering animal. And that was the whole idea of the message because as the dog ran past an alley the camera moved and showed a teenager huddled in the same rain, freezing cold and obviously miserable and scared. This was several years back and I can’t remember the exact words that were said. But the point was clear: do we care as much for that girl as we care for the dog? I was stunned.

I only saw it a few times. I guess the organization that produced the commercial ran out of funds or something. It’s too bad because it was a good message even though it wasn’t specifically against abortion.

Clevelander WOW that was quite a true story to share. I have worked for Pro-Life, wrote letters to whoever would listen, put in my two cents worth wherever conversation ended up in Pro-Life topics. I know we are going through that era of killing over again and so many people just don’t get it. Every child conceived has a right to live, if they’re not wanted,there are childless couples who would give anything to have a child. How dare any medical doctor rip apart the life of a child that has a right to life. How dare any mother let it happen. How dare a whole civilized country stand back and let the killing go on. And yes, I love animals dearly, and their pressence among us us is essential, but so is the lives of all the nations children

We can use conscience as an excuse to sleep well at night. You know, as long as my conscience is clear? Unfortunately not every one’s conscience is formed according to Catholic teachings and dogmas. Many who think themselves Catholic have no idea there is an absolute truth in all things. They have never heard of, or ignore the Church’s teachings about Intrinsic Evils, those actions that never, never can be excused. Forgiven yes, but never excused.
