Private baptism means you don’t have to worry about any germs except your family and the priest and the sponsors.

I’ve never ever heard that a baby has to hold up his own head for Baptism. That is not anywhere in the norms nor in the law.

Godparents may have a proxy, again your priest seems to be adding unnecessary burdens.

Babies have been baptized in the first few days/weeks after birth for more than 2000 years, so, be at peace unless your baby has serious medical issues, is born during an ice storm, or some other catastrophe the sooner the better for baptism!

We let the parents and sponsors do the class at their leisure on the FORMED.org website. “Reborn” is an excellent video series!!

Wow. We’ve always taken our babies to Mass and never had a problem. Granted, our parish isn’t typically so full that people are sitting right on top of one another, and I don’t usually take the newborn out of the pumpkin seat, much less pass her around, but that seems really extreme barring a immune compromising condition. I’ve definitely never heard the idea that taking babies out of the house at two months increased chances of SIDS, and my first born was a NICU baby! They just recommended not allowing other people to handle her without washing first and to tell her cousin to kiss her on the foot, rather than the face or hand. If you’re worried about germs, I would just ask for a private Baptism, but that’s just me.
