Baby Girl Born With Two Faces Worshipped as Reincarnated Hindu God

If you follow the link to the story, there is also a photo of this unique girl who was born in a Northern Indian village and is being worshipped as the reincarnation of a Hindu God. Apparently she is otherwise a healthy girl.
 
I was not able to access the video. The child seems to have two complete faces (missing just one eye). I guess my question would be is there only one set of internal organs? I think the medical questions would be the most pressing at this time in the child’s life. If there are two souls here that must share one body, how much more grace will be needed for the child to live a happy fulfilled life we cannot even imagine.
 
I was reading about this yesterday, and talking about it with my daughter. The girl has 2 full faces, 4 eyes, 2 noses, 2 mouths, only her ears are not duplicated, she has two. The rest of her body is not duplicated, so one set of everything else. Makes you wonder though, how two noses are connect to one set of lungs, and two mouths to one stomach. Must be some real interesting things going on in the tracheal area. Also, we wondered, how does her brain process the (name removed by moderator)ut from four eyes???

One of the reports I read said dr.'s in New Delhi recommended that her parents bring her in for a full body scan, to determine the state of her organs, as with this rare deformity there are usually other complications. Her father said no, she is doing alright. :confused:
 
It makes me wonder if some of Hindu legends originate in a congenital deformity such as this. This girl is otherwise healthy. Maybe people in India long ago, instead of shunning a deformed child like we did in the West, instead exalted it to God status.

What do you think?

Sometimes children are born sharing parts of one body, but actually are two different souls. When possible, the children are separated after birth. Looking at the two faces of this child, I wonder if there are two wills – souls-- involved. But it is pretty obvious that if there are, no separation is possible.

It is my understanding that Hindu representations of gods with multiple arms, legs, faces, and such are simply that REPRESENTATIONS of different aspects of the God. Siva has 8 arms because each pair is posed in a position that communicates something different through gesture. He got 8 arms from art. Art didn’t depict Siva as he is.

Maybe I’m on the moon here, but that’s how I read it. E.g., the Elephant-headed Ganesha has the traits that are admired in elephants.

This news story, telling of Hindus worshiping this child as a god, shows more about human nature than about Hinduism. The woman in the office next to mine is a religious Hindu, highly educated, an architect by profession. I assure you, she would not dream of worshiping this child as a God. Catholics have been known to swarm to tree stumps that bear a supposedly miraculous “image” of Our Lady. It’s a question of what rung of the ladder you inhabit.

I’m talking about thousands of years ago when Hinduism began to take shape as a religion. People were extremely primative and superstitious then. Maybe a child like this was born and it survived and was healthy. It could be that primative people formed a belief system around it, thinking it to be a God.

Then, the religion evolved, full of rich symbolism, such as a child with two faces could be interpreted symbolically.

Why would she have two souls ? If there is only one person - then there’s just the one soul. I doubt you’ve missed much.​

Though that is a very interesting issue - can the current doctrine on the ensoulment of the foetus at conception cope with this kind of physiological development ? To put it another way: how do the theologians reconcile this kind of development, with their accounts of ensoulment of the foetus ? For instance: how many souls are infused at conception when twins don’t develop properly (which is what this sounds like) ? In the past this kind of thing might very well not have happened, so it wouldn’t be an issue for theology or doctrine.

**Treating someone as a manifestation of a deity sounds far more humane than shunning or maltreating or exhibiting them as freaks, as Christians tended to. So much for Christian charity 😦 **​

**Just for comparison’s sake, there’s a Mesopotamian god with two faces named Isimud (he’s the centre figure in the cylinder seal below; the snaky things are waterspouts in a pot held by his master the water-god Enki-Ea) **

I would almost bet that she won’t be able to see or even really use one side, what do you think? It is going to interesting.

It’s pretty obvious that her twin just didn’t develop… Bless her little heart…

I agree. In the West, traditionally people who were abnormal were shut away, or else displayed for profit. I do believe that monasteries, however, would take in deformed foundlings to be raised.

As much as worshipping as a God seems sacreligious, it is far better than some fates.

What do you think of my theory about the origins of some representations in Hinduism of Gods with abnormal bodies. This baby girls is able to eat, the only thing abnormal is her two faces. From what I read (there are several online articles) she has one brain, therefore she is one person.
