I want to know if anyone is aware of the custom of placing the Baby Jesus statue on top of the Tabernacle from Christmas to Septuagesima. This question applies to the Tridentine Mass and not the New Rite. I was looking at an old religious magazine that showed an old mass altar on Christmas and it showed the Baby sitting on the Tabernacle and it gave a short explanation elsewhere. Also I have seen in photos from certain Tridentine masses (however from SSPX or those sedevacantists) that the Baby sat on the tabernacle during Christmas. I have only seen one Indult Mass photo that had this custom.
Has this always been a custom in the church or is this a modern custom developed only by certain traditional groups?
Thanks and God Bless
