Police in Haverhill, Massachusetts are trying to find who’s responsible for stealing the baby Jesus from a Nativity scene outside a local church, and replacing it with a real pig’s head.

The baby Jesus figure was stolen from the crèche at the Sacred Hearts Parish church on Christmas morning, police say.

The Nativity scene was in a raised wooden box outside the church. Friday morning the pig’s head had been removed, and all that was left where the baby Jesus would be was a plastic bag, MyFoxBoston.com reported.

Haverhill Police held a press conference Friday to discuss the disturbing act. "This particular pig is not the kind of pig that would be sold at a butcher shop,” Lieutenant Robert P. Pistone, a spokesman for the Haverhill Police Department said. “Usually they would remove all the hair.”

Pistone said the pig "did appear to be pretty freshly decapitated,” and police are asking local farms and butcher shops for assistance in the case.

"It’s just a really hurtful commentary on society," Pastor John Delaney, who runs Sacred Hearts Church said Friday. "And for someone to do this sad deed is really shocking."

thing is, in God’s infinite mercy and love, he forgives the people that that did this horrible act… those are very hard footsteps for me to follow, Lord, help me to forgive as you have forgiven and to show them the same mercy as you would show me.

That’s pretty disgusting and inhumane to the animal as well. I hope they catch the perpetrator(s) and they get some mental health help. They are sick, IMO.

I doubt it had anything to do with real religious “conviction”; they probably did it for shock value. We are living in a “can you top this” YouTube society…very sad.

Speaking of shock value, Some idiot in Cincinnati, OH has created a nativity scene in his front yard, but all the people are zombies, the baby Jesus is also an evil looking zombie! The worst part of this imo, the nit wit who created it, is all over the local news, claiming its all in good fun, and should not be taken seriously! LOL

I find it hard to believe people are this ‘dumb’ and dont even recognize the severity of their actions.

My wife and I are closing on a house in Haverhill (pronounced Hayve-rill) on Monday. Needless to say that I am thoroughly disgusted by this, and more than a little angry. NOT happy that this happened in my future home.

According to today’s Lawrence Eagle-Tribune (the northern Merrimack Valley’s newspaper of record) the Haverhill Police Department have promised that they will solve the crime, and are giving serious consideration to prosecuting this case as a ‘hate crime.’

Personally, I normally detest the notion that the race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion of the victim should have ANY bearing on the seriousness of the crime - I think that ALL crimes are hate crimes - but if this were committed against a temple or a mosque; it would be a ‘hate crime’ for sure. So, use the law as it was intended. Catholics are a minority in the United States, so time to go after the guy(s) that did this to the fullest extent.

This doesn’t offend me near so much as the actions taken in the OP.
In this case, without any further context, it’s satire… IMHO in bad taste, and yet, I can laugh at my own faith and myself - frankly, we all make mistakes and I hope in Zombie king’s fate God will tsk-tsk and count this as a minor one. At least Zombie king thought of our Lord’s birth.

The Pig Head…
At the least, this is simple vandalism, at the worst a hate crime against Christians. Not just Catholic Christians - but all Christians.
Where is the FBI in this?

• If such vandalism had happened to a Jewish temple there would be calls of antisemitism, as Christians we would condemn the acts and support our Jewish Brothers and Sisters in God - and the FBI would be called in to investigate a hate crime.
  Where is their out cry for us?
• If such vandalism had happened to a Muslim Mosque there would be calls condemning the act as a hate crime , as Christians we would condemn the acts and support our Muslim neighbors in that we both worship the God - and the FBI would be called in to investigate a hate crime.
  Where is their out cry for us?
• My Brothers and Sisters in the Military (my entire childhood as a military-brat, I hope to have earned the privilege to call them that) have given their lives, even to the point of death, to protect the faiths in this country, not just Christian, but also Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Taoist, Hindi, Atheists, and so many more - this vandalism is an offense against the lives freely given to protect and preserve the freedom of religion we so value in USA and yet seem not to understand how fragile that privilege is…

Tonight I have a holy hour, I’ll pray for their conversion, repentance, and forgiveness along with the other intentions I’ve gathered over the last few weeks and for those listed here in the prayer intentions (I take a look, but usually just include them as part of my general prayers) - if you have something specific post it the Prayer intentions forum and I’ll add it to my list.

Oh I agree, there are clearly different standards for different ethnic and religious groups when it comes to the FBI or really any law enforcement agency, I think they tend to ‘blow off’ catholics and Christians when it comes to such things, it makes me mad, but with other religious groups and ethnic groups…if they feel offended, they are very vocal about it, some even resorting to violence.

IN short the FBI knows Catholics and christians will not be as vocal or resort to such things if and when they get offended, so they feel they can treat us a bit different…maybe if more christians and catholics would get more pissed off in public, let people they are pissed off and offended and demand something be done to make it right…but this doesnt happen, for the most part christians arent like this, (when maybe they really should start to!).

Plus, we dont have someone like an Al Sharpton, or Farakhan, etc to speak out for large groups of christians, maybe if we had someone as vocal and aggressive as these people are relating to their groups, maybe things would change?
