I’ll give a plug for Felix. We named our son Felix. It’s worked out well. The name suits him - it means happy/lucky/blessed and he is a bright, ebullient kid. It’s also a papal name (as I’m sure you know). No one teases him about his name - kids know nothing about the Odd Couple and next to nothing about Felix the Cat.

Also, decide if you prefer nicknames or not. Matthias is likely to be nicknamed Matt unless you are consistent in calling him Matthias. Felix, for better or for worse, is nickname-proof.

I would wager that no one under age 40 would make either association.

I prefer Matthias myself, but it may be best to wait and see what he looks like. Also pray on it.
I could be biased against Felix cos I am not a fan of cats, lol.

Matthias is a good name. But James is also a saint’s name, (several of them,) and there is currently a shortage of James’s and Robert’s. But, if you remain undecided, you can take Teresa Bloomingdale’s advice and wait till you meet the boy before you decide who he is.

This thread is funny to me because one of my sons is actually named Felix Matthias. He goes by Matthias now as an adult because he dislikes the name Felix. Growing up we called him Felix.

This is one of the reasons my son has opted to go by Matthias now. He is around your age.

Not only the cat. But the odd couple has further weakened felix. I mean nobody wants to be either an oscar or a felix!
I missed this post earlier. This makes the thread even funnier to me! Another son is named Oscar. He actually loves his name and people receive him well. Most kids and young adults ask if he is named for Oscar de la Renta or Oscar de la Hoya. Catholics ask if he’s named for Oscar Romero. Preschoolers ask about Oscar the Grouch and several people from many nationalities mention an uncle or father or grandfather or cousin with his name. He’s had several people bring up the academy awards. After all, who wouldn’t want to win an Oscar? The only trouble he has had with his name is that often it is misunderstood as Austin, but he doesn’t mind that.

I didn’t name either one. They were named when I adopted them and I would never dream of changing their names. Names are such a big part of someone’s identity. We are Latino so their names are not uncommon in our families either.

I have never heard of The Odd Couple. I am going to have to look that up!

ETA: I see its an old TV show. That would explain why I’ve never heard of it before. I watched an episode and it’s quite funny. I’m going to show my boys when they visit next week. From the episode I saw it seems the characters in an exaggerated way are kind of those two boys except in reverse. My oscar would be that Felix, and my Felix would be the oscar.

Neither if I’m just being honest and giving my opinion. They’re both too old fashioned. What about waiting to name him until you see your son?

Personally I like Joseph or Peter

Too old fashioned and then you picked Joseph or Peter? LOL!!!

I vote Matthias. But maybe include a poll in the topic post.

Congratulations on your baby! I love the name Matthias. I will be praying for a safe and healthy delivery for you!

Congrats! I would personally go with Matthias… that’s a fine name. If he doesn’t care for it when he’s older, he can easily fall back on Matt, the same of which cannot be said for Felix.

If I ever have a boy I’ll name him Isaiah Or Jeremiah I love those names but you’ve probably already considered them so I’d go with felix I have a brother named Felix lol

First, congratulations on our pregnancy! Matthias is super cute! He will probably shorten it to Matt, but that is still cute and like a modern take on it. I am kinda bias though because I used to have a dog named Felix.

Felix 🙂

I find it exciting and fun to think of baby names, sometimes hard too.
