There was a French instructional program on PBS when I was in college, and the main character was named Mireille.I wanted Mireille fir my oldest. But first hubs said he couldn’t pronounce it
Pronounced meer-ay.
So we went with Rebecca. It suits her.
I love the same Sofia, Marisol, Azucena, Marianita
I studied French for many years…ItThere was a French instructional program on PBS when I was in college, and the main character was named Mireille.
Sara is my little girls name. I also named one of my cats Sara when I was little, really love the name, LOL. No one else remembers the cat…Spouse vetoed two:
Siobhan - said it sounded like the word for goat in Spanish
Sara - he had a pet that was called “Sara the dog” and was afraid his relatives would call the baby that.![]()
We have a small child in PSR that is named Selene. Very pretty name. Her mother is from Mexico.I like the name Emma, but someone in my family just named her baby that so
I also like the name Anastasia, but with the whole Fifty Shades thing going on…the attention on it will probably die when I actually get married and have a baby, so i have hope
I like the name Selena too, but people my age will think of Gomez, and I don’t want them to think I named my baby after her, even though she seems like a kind woman (naming babies after celebrities is a weird idea to me)
Rachel- a guy I like is dating a gorgeous girl called Rachel…so that’s going down the drain![]()
Mon amieI studied French for many years…It
s a popular name I guess. Sounds really pretty, but I’ve never met anyone with that name.![]()
Growing up in Quebec, I did meet the occasional one. It easily gets turned into Mimi. But having grown up in Quebec, it makes me think of a grandmother as does the name NicoleI studied French for many years…It

they actually sound quite modern and trendy to meI like old fashioned names like Isabella, Victoria, Sophia.
Mon amie
I hope all is well with you.
Believe it or not, more and more people in France opt for English/American (or just English/American sounding) first name for their children, and very French names such as Mireille have been abandoned for a while.
Here is a list of most popular names in France in 2016:
Girls: Chloé, Léa, Jade, Manon, Louise, Zoé, Lilou, Léna, Sarah, Camille
Boys: Lucas, Louis, Gabriel, Jules, Timéo, Hugo, Arthur, Ethan, Raphaël, Maël
Peace be with you,

It is also nice to see you online, and to have friends in this community.

Chloe…ay yay yay…Ic ant ell you home many Chloe’s we have in formation! Also Sarah…seems there are literally hundreds of Sarahs.
Ethan is a nice name, and I’ve always like Etienne, but most American men don’t liek that name.
Good to see you online!!!
Clare
I know several Alberts and Alfreds. It is also nice to see you online, and to have friends in this community.
Sarah is great. So is Ethan I agree. I personally only know of one Etienne in France, where as its variation, Stéphane seems to be more common.
I also quite have an interest in Germanic names, such as Walter, Wilfried, Albert, Alfred, etc.
Best regards,
Vlad
