If you don’t mind a fella chiming in, I would say you go right ahead and give her the warm jammies or nightshirt. In the first place, who says that nice warm, soft and pleasent to the touch flannel is not sexy?? I’m sure that by doing a bit of shpping you can find an attractive outfit that is modest and comfortable and still be attractive.
While I would never deny liking to see my lady in a “skanty little number” for some special occasion, I have never disliked her in a flannels. It’s about the closeness and Love - Not the tittlation.

As a Final note, She may well appreciate your warm and cosy gift most of all since everyone else will likely get her things too light for northern nights. Remember, she’ll need to get up once in a while on her honeymoon. 😃 It ould be nice to have a cosy warm Robe to pull on.

You ar a thoughtful sister - and a realist.👍

Just my 2c

Peace
James
This reminds me of my husband…he for some reason absolutely LOVED me in these, what I thought were frankly hideous, blue flannel pajamas with sheep all over them. I was completely covered in these things, barely an inch of skin showing. They were WARM and comfy on cold Chicago winter nights, I considered them functional, and he considered them HOT. lol. He said he liked me looking comfortable and relaxed and cuddly. I have to admit I prefer the vibe of them myself since for me putting on lingerie (only the very tasteful penpoir type stuff mind you) only made me overly conscious of my physical flaws, and made me feel like we were…performing or something. The sheep jammies never failed me;)

TO the OP I think like everyone has said…tasteful special wedding night attire is an appropriate gift. kage’s links show some really beautiful styles, very classy and not tarty or trashy. Something like that would be well received I’m sure.

I agree with ChristaM. I would also be very uncomfortable with anyone buying me lingerie.
That’s between DH and me. How about a nice bottle of Champagne or some really decadent chocolates, something to share with her husband. It’s romantic but not too intimate.

Fluffy bath sheets, a bottle a wine/champagne with glasses & candles.

I think you should get her something sexy.- I got lots of silk and lace, lots of things that covered very little - it is a honeymoon after all, and on honeymoons it’s perfectly appropriate to prance around in especially revealing clothing. It’s not supposed to be modest, it’s supposed to be sexy! And unless they’re going winter camping, there will be heat in their rooms, so don’t even think about getting flannel!

I myself am engaged to be married next year, and I sincerely hope my sister and friends don’t buy me anything too trashy. It’d just be weird.

You can find however some nice silky pajamas that would be nice. You can get things like shorts and camisole sets which would be nice and still kind of sexy but not hooker.

:amen:
It’s a honeymoon, not a practice in modesty. Wear the sexy thong, push up bra, and break the bed. 😛 You have the rest of your marriage to wear the practical and unattractive things. When I get married, if someone gave me a robe, they would get this look . But I wear sexy underthings all the time, even in church, it makes me feel sexy, and no one knows. 😃 So it wouldn’t weird me out.

As Christians, we are called to modesty in every momen of our lives - even on honeymoon.
Hmmmm…sitting here wondering how one can look modest while having sex. Oh well.

To the OP - I think you should get whatever your sister would be comfortable with. If she’d like something a little more racy, then go for it. If she’s the shy type, then yes, maybe something nice and sexy, but not terribly so. There’s going to be plenty of time during their marriage to break out the garter belt and the pushup bra. Personally, I think that sort of stuff is more useful later on, to help keep the spark alive. Your first time…you’re not going to need a lot of kindling to start the fire, if you know what I mean. 😉

😦 What, nobody looked??? I thought I’d at least get one 👍!
Heh, heh…😃 That is pretty cute…

To the OP–if it is embarrassing, don’t get her lingerie, that will take care of the problem. Get her the Christopher West book, and maybe a gift basket of delicious smelling body wash, bubble bath, lotion, and some pretty scented candles. It will make her feel pretty and feminine, but not be embarrassing.

Just a thought…

…but the way people are using the word “modest” on this site implys “prudish” not “modest.” There is nothing at all immodest about being fully sexual and even uber-sexually exciting in marriage - on the honeymoon and beyond.

QUOTE]

If it’s great sex, there is nothing modest about it. 😛 Modest sex = lights off, covers over people, missonary= boring!

If it’s between a married couple, just them and God, in their own privacy, open to unity, procreation and acting out of full love for each other…it doesn’t matter what goes on in there, what lingerie, position, etc…because, not only is it modest, it’s holy.

Do you believe that the Church requires a couple to be clothed during intercourse?
Where on planet earth would you get that idea?

Modesty - from the Catechism:
scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a9.htm#2521

2521 Purity requires modesty, an integral part of temperance. Modesty protects the intimate center of the person. It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden. It is ordered to chastity to whose sensitivity it bears witness. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity.

[2522](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/2522.htm’)😉 Modesty protects the mystery of persons and their love. It encourages patience and moderation in loving relationships; it requires that the conditions for the definitive giving and commitment of man and woman to one another be fulfilled. Modesty is decency. It inspires one’s choice of clothing. It keeps silence or reserve where there is evident risk of unhealthy curiosity. It is discreet.

[2523](javascript:openWindow(‘cr/2523.htm’)😉 There is a modesty of the feelings as well as of the body. It protests, for example, against the voyeuristic explorations of the human body in certain advertisements, or against the solicitations of certain media that go too far in the exhibition of intimate things. Modesty inspires a way of life which makes it possible to resist the allurements of fashion and the pressures of prevailing ideologies.
2524 The forms taken by modesty vary from one culture to another. Everywhere, however, modesty exists as an intuition of the spiritual dignity proper to man. It is born with the awakening consciousness of being a subject. Teaching modesty to children and adolescents means awakening in them respect for the human person.

I object strongly to the implication that modesty is not sexy. That’s quite unfair to those of us who strive to be both alluring and modest.
If you are reading that any of that applies in any way to the bedroom shared between a married man and woman, then you’re doing some serious reading between the lines.
What would make you think that it doesn’t apply to man and wife? I don’t see anything in there that says “This does not apply to married couples, feel free to forget all you have learned about human dignity, go ahead and objectify each other, etc.” Notice 1ke never said anything about it being immodest for a married couple to be naked with each other. Modesty is so much more than being naked or clothed, and marital passion does not preclude respecting each other’s dignity as persons, which is the gist of that entire passage.

I think you and others on this thread are confusing modesty with prudishness.

I think maybe we are differing on the definitions of modesty and prudishness. As far as I’m concerned, lingerie is in no way modest, and neither is nakedness. Refusing to wear suggestive clothing in the grocery store is showing modesty. Refusing to do so in the bedroom? Yeah, that’s prudish. It’s not about objectifying oneself. It’s about making yourself desirable and attractive to your partner. I fix my hair and wear makeup to bed on occasion too, it’s not about being immodest, it’s about making myself attractive to my husband in order to heighten the sexual experience for both of us. Men are visual and there’s nothing at all wrong with being visually stimulating to your husband.

AGREED! 😉 That’s really all I have to say. Much of this thread is leaving me speechless.

wondering whether the propagation of the species will happen in some people’s marriages

I don’t know… I can kind of see where some of these posters are coming from. I mean, I’ve seen some of the magazines where the lingerie looks more like what the hookers and strippers wear in the movies and things than anything else. I’m not sure why I would want to look like a stripper for my husband? It just seems like that’s catering to what we’re trying to get rid of in society, an objectification of women for their bodies and using them.

Perhaps I didn’t word that the best, but I really can see some of their points. But perhaps you all aren’t talking about the more trashy lingerie, I don’t know.
