I don’t know if anyone will remember me. I think when I was last here I was pregnant and having marital problems. Well our daughter is nearly 6 months old, she was baptized in January, she cried throughout the ceremony :o but this was due to oil getting in her eyes. Our priest said something about it being good luck for her to cry but I have never heard of that. I have unfortunately been diagnosed with post natal depression and am receiving treatment for it. I am recovering, with medication, support from my family and friends, and through prayer. Our marital issues are slowly getting better, we are both working at it together. Does anyone have any idea of when I should start taking the baby to church regularly? I don’t want her to cry and disturb parishioners but I know this could happen at any point anyway, I just want to get her used to going to church and make it natural. I so fear her hating having to go to church when she is older. I know so many who have had their child baptized and then never take them to church. Much love to you all x

Welcome back. Not yet. The baby won’t remember a thing and you will only get the disapproving looks from an old fogey that forgot how to smile twenty years ago. Get over the p p depression and just enjoy the baby with friends and family. God bless your marriage. I am glad both of you are working at it.

Don’t worry about taking your baby to Mass or not. Do whatever is convenient for you. The baby doesn’t know the difference at that age. Don’t worry about disturbing anyone else if you do take the baby. It is Christ’s house and He loves babies. It is important that you and your husband stay close to the Church.

Congrats on the safe arrival of your baby! About the depression,
Christ came to bring us peace(shalom) which means “completeness”
I pray that you will find your “peace” in Him!(John 14:27) And I am glad that
you decided to come back to CAForums, I come here almost daily
and find so diverse experiences of the Catholic faith, from cradle
Catholics to reverts to converts, even from Mormonism, and I am
growing exponentially in my Catholic faith!

Welcome back. God bless you & your new baby.

This is pretty much the best opportunity for taking the baby to church, if that is what you wish to do. Unfortunately, around 10 months old, they start getting wigglier and friskier and stay that way for the next couple years.

Welcome back!
As for taking a baby to Church or not, that is your choice. Many parents split up for different Masses so that one can stay at home with baby. Some stay in the cry room (not my favorite choice personally). If you want to try taking baby to Mass with you, evaluate baby’s normal daily schedule and pick a Mass time based on that. Sometimes if you get lucky babies may nap through Mass. I really appreciate seeing babies at Mass. But do what you need to do in order to get through this time.

Prayers for you and your family!

Thankfully I have never experienced that sort of attitude in church at all. My fear is disturbing fellow parishioners. The elderly I generally encounter at church smile at the children in attendance.

Thanks Paul that is my feeling too, I don’t want to lose the happiness we both feel in going to church. I hope I can keep her calm throughout mass or at least until communion.

Thank you gwt, unfortunately my husband and I both work and we don’t have a day off together anymore 😦 some weekends though he works later in the day so could come in the morning to mass or stay at home with the baby while I go. That is definitely something for us to consider. Thanks for that’s advice. Xxxx

Hmmmmm I think you can take your child to church when it’s old enough to understand, because for not the baby can’t understand at church so it’s no reason to take it there
