Back from 1st Mass!

It was amazing!!

Thank you, AlwaysForHim, for your last post in my “attending 1st mass” thread. I remembered to kneel before entering the pew. A friend of mine who’s Catholic attends the church and she was very helpful in explaining as well.

As soon as I walked in, I felt God’s divine presence. I felt so close to God today. I couldn’t help but cry when they started the Eucharist!! So powerful and spiritual. The kids liked that there was a lot of singing and that there was ‘audience participation’. Said it made them feel included.

2 of my kids attended along w/my oldest daughter’s b/f. None of them have attended a Catholic service before. My husband didn’t attend and had been telling the kids this morning while they were eating breakfast that “Catholic service is nothing like they’ve been to. It’s quiet and everything’s different.” He was going to tell them something else, but then stopped and said instead that “You’ll find out for yourself.” My youngest daughter (who went with me) told me that. My middle girl, who actually needed to be there the most, and my son who’s the youngest stayed home w/their dad. The 2 that did come with me said they wanted to go again. I’m telling you, the devil was working overtime today. We enjoyed the service and everyone was so nice. After I got home, we ate lunch and my husband didn’t even speak to me! 😦 He left to go get my son a haircut and didn’t say bye or anything. I said a quick prayer for him that God would touch his heart.

So I will be going back next Sunday:D

I want to thank all of those that have been praying for me and my family, and those that have been so supportive to someone who is so new to the Church.:grouphug:

Now I must finish homework:rolleyes:

Thank you kindly, Wolfgang.

This has become my new Christian hang-out, so I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.👍 I will definitely keep everyone posted. With wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ such as you all are, I’m not alone. I’m the ‘baby’ and all of you older siblings are helping me, guiding me, answering my questions, and showing me the way. I thank God for all of you. I’m glad to be Home:yup::bounce:

I’m sorry about your husband’s attitude, but so impressed that you attended Mass in spite of it. That takes real strength & you should be proud. He’ll come around, just be patient & give him time. Invite him every Sunday & when he turns you down (& he will for a while) just smile & say “OK.”. This worked for my son, who married a non-Catholic.

A little over a year ago, I started attending the Traditional Latin Mass that my husband & I grew up with… However, all of our friends attend the Novus Ordo & my husband refused to go to the TLM with me. He didn’t bad-mouth it nor me, just wouldn’t go. That was tough…we had been attending Mass together for 49 yrs., but I needed the latin Mass & he would never take something from me that he knew that I needed. To make a long story a little shorter, on Easter Sunday both he & my daughter went with me. He hasn’t missed this Mass since then & my daughter wants to attend again. Just keep on going (& since you are a new & found such peace & the presence of God at the Novus Ordo, it’s probably best that you stay with that at least for a while. He is indeed present at both Masses,). My point is that if you keep attending & praying, he will see the difference in you. In the end, he’ll want to see what it is that you find so satisfying. Don’t give up!!!

Thank you for your kind words, CradleCath. It really means a lot to have people that understand. You know, since God called me Home to the Church, I have noticed (within my family) far more cynicism and a general sense of they’ve failed because I’m attending Catholic services. I’m not being bad-mouthed either, but I was just talking to my mother and she said, “Where did I go wrong? BOTH of my kids are Catholic and that’s not how I raised you guys!” I replied with, “Well, you should be happy that we are IN church and trying to be good Christians! Everyone seems to be forgetting that fact!” Anyways…
Latin Mass sounds like something I’d really be interested in later on down the line.
I’m definitely not going to let anything sway me and I will be at service weekly and praying daily. Thank you again!

A most important thing to remember about the Mass, is that regardless of whether it is the Novus Ordo, in English, Spanish, Latin, or Swahili, or the traditional Latin, it IS the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, celebrated to worship God.

I am happy to read that you felt God’s presence. It is also a great gift that you have a friend that attends that Church to be your support. I will pray for you and your husband - that he join you and open his heart to whatever God wants him to know.

You have a great attitude. Be patient, loving and understanding with your husband. Saying that prayer will help, it has to!!! You do this for you. When you are secure enough with the knowledge you are learning, you will be able to help your children learn Christ’s Way for us. Give it time and plenty of prayer, right?!!!

I’m praying…fervently. And I’m trying really hard not to drop down a level or 2 when he comes with his little snippets. He’s REALLY playing on the fact that I went to church today to taunt me with his comments. Meaning that he will say something and when he sees this look on my face like I can’t believe you just said that…he replies quickly with, ‘now, now you went to church today’. So, I say I will pray for him…and walk away. I KNOW in my heart he doesn’t mean it and the devil is trying to create discord in the family. I guess I need to pray for more patience with him and understanding.

In time, as he sees the change in you and the peacefulness that you have obtained, he will want what you have found. He will then be on his journey also.
I feel so blessed to be able to follow your conversion through this site. It takes me back 13 years when i was on my journey to becoming a Catholic convert. I loved reading the way you described how you felt during Mass.
Some stress has been weighing on me the past couple of years but you have given me new inspiration in my Catholic faith.

I will continue with my prayers for him. I know God will give me the patience that I need to deal with the cynical things he’s doing as of late. He’s normally not like this so I know it’s the devil.
I’m glad that you’ve been able to gain a new inspiration from me and my path to conversion. I wouldn’t be able to do it without everyone’s prayers and support from here. It’s always good to have friends in person to talk to but when we’re at home and everyone’s at work, it’s good to have our online friends to talk to as well. I thank God for that.

My husband is agnostic and gave me a really hard time when I started going back to church a lot of the things your husband said to you. He called me “the church lady” and other nonsense. It has taken years, but I would not quit going. I think he has finally come to the realization that God is not going away and neither is His church. He doesn’t hassle me too much any more.

Remember that you going to church changes his life too and that may be a bit scary to him. Most people in fact don’t like any changes to their lives and try to fight them. Give him time to recognize that not all life changes are bad.
 
This is a wonderful, truly God-inspired thread. Peach, may you develop in the Catholic Faith that comes to us from the Apostles.

When my faith weakens in the onslaught of non-Catholic and non-believing attitudes from others, I remember that there is only one organistion on this Earth that has existed throughout the known world, continuously for 2,000 years. That is the Catholic Church, and it is because it is not a human organisation, but a Divine one. Although it does have to make do with human servants, who are imperfect (thus all the sqabbling on this board!). Remember, the gates of hell will never prevail against it

I’m so very glad that you have found the Church that Our Lord founded. May all your family come to do likewise - but beware the wickedness and snares of the devil - he makes evil mischief with families divided in matters of faith.
