Backstory of a Mortal Sin

I know Mastrubation is a grave sin, and I follow not to do it. Now that I have taken to study the Bible and have found where many of our stances on Mortal sins originate from, I still can not find this one. It’s very difficult when I am trying to prove to other Christians and even some more lax Catholics that this is a grave sin. Does anyone here know the origin of this? I have heard of Onan’s story, but also that it may of referenced ‘withdrawal’ and not mastrubation.

As a Catholic, why do you think it has to be in the Bible? Let me ask you this. How could masturbation be something a Holy, or God’s will? Then ask yourself what authority the Church has in your life and what the purpose of Jesus even establishing a Church if all you need is the Bible to tell you not to masturbate?
 
It’s not just if it’s in the Bible, and the Church does have authority in my life. I believe Mastrubation is an inherently evil act against the 6th commandment because the Church (actually almost all of the different Christian branches say so too) and I believe the Church is justified to say this. Unfortunately we also live in a secular 2020 where the value of marriage is plummeting and this sin is now even encouraged by some doctors. I want to know how I can prove to more modern and lax Catholics. To the Thomases who must see to believe. I always find myself backed into a wall because not all people will belive “the Church said so” is valid. Especially when unfortunately we have a lot of priests who now violate the commandments themselves, and hurt the vast majority of innocent priests and bishops. I also would like to know the origin of our belief that mastrubation is a mortal sin. Actually all 3 of the Abrahamic religions condemn it,
and I personally condemn it as an animal-like act of inmaturity, just as our Church does.
 
You don’t have to prove anything. Just avoid the sin and confess it when it happens. That’s all that is needed.

I am sorry if that came off as mean. After posting that it read to me as a bit mean. I do not mean any offense.
 
You did not come off as mean or inappropriate. It was just an honest question. And there is a lot that has been written about various sins of this nature. But you can look that up at your leisure, and not need to worry about having to justify the Church’s teaching.
