An lady librarian once referred to these “romance novels” as “bodice-rippers”, and I asked her why she called them that. She told me that their plots are all basically the same, and by page 37, the villain will have ripped the bodice off the poor, helpless damsel in distress. Don’t know if this is true since I don’t read them.
