Hello everyone,

A couple of days ago I went to confession and during this confession I was thinking about a possible (mortal) sin. I had the idea of asking it to the confessor but I didn’t do it. At the end of the confession I wasn’t thinking about it anymore and I’ve received the absolution believing everything was all right. But after the confession I had a short conversation with the confessor and then I realised I had to tell him about that possible mortal sin. But now I think that possible mortal sin wasn’t probably a mortal sin, although I believe it would have been wise to tell my confessor. I’m still feeling uncomfourtable about it because at the moment of confession I believed I had to tell him, even when I know now it was probably not a sin. But I have to admit I suffer a lot from scruples, doubts and uncertainties, especially regarding confession (I have always fears to make a bad confession).

Is there anyone who can help me?

Anyone’s mind slips a detail sometimes. If you plan to make a point of including it soon, if your heart is not too wrong with God He will put guidance your way to do it quicker, if you haven’t really received that already.

That would be a kind of “principle” without “quantifying” anything, I think.

Your confessor absolves you from all sins, even those you forget to mention.

If you were not sure it was a mortal sin or not, it wasn’t

Mortal sin requires “Full Knowledge.”

Remember, as the Catechism states, “Only God Forgives Sins.”

Being such, He knows what’s in your heart and what concern you have and has forgiven you.

Place yourself in God’s mercy and understand that you are forgiven,

I’ve had the same problem as you, firstly your probably unsure whether or not your confession is a good one because your unsure whether or not your confession consists of a mortal sin. In order for you to know that completely, ask yourself whether or not you confessed everything that you want to have known, and if not, you have to tell the priest everything anyways. Perhaps, your worried that your sins wont be forgiven because there isn’t enough time of the day for you tell your confessor what sins you want forgiven, but the fact of the matter is that you went to confession in order to confess and you are worrying for no reason why it even happened. If you are worrying why your mortal sin happened, you are probably unsure about it, and your confessor already knows that.

I suffered the same sort of thing when I had problems with confessions, because you think that your not fully forgiven, or it seems that its’ too good too be true, so your probably able to sin once again, well my brother, its not true, your able to be forgiven and go on living life not sinning once again. so dont do it again! or at least do your best to try not to, because God knows about your effort and your caring, more than I do, more than anyone does, so trust in the trinity, and your own belief system. Amen.

If one cannot find any Peace because of a previous confession, the best thing to do for complete Peace of Soul, if one just cannot experience it, is to have a good talk with Father in Confession.
In fact it struck me that a good move might be to print your OP into this thread and read it to Father in Confession or keep it handy during your next Confession so you will not forget anything…Father will lead from there and he has heard it all I am sure. I think you probably need Father’s advice on a few levels.
