No, I don’t mean morally questionable movies. I meant cheesy, badly-made movies, the kind that Mystery Science Theater 3000 would lampoon. Anyone here their, erm, ‘favorite’?

This for now: I’ll admit I’m kinda partial to Manos: The Hands of Fate. That kinda transcends ‘bad’ and cheesy that it’s almost a form of art.

(Speaking of MST3K, I feel I have an excuse to link to this. youtube.com/watch?v=6zmun7RG3o4 :D)

This thread:

Name the worst movies ever made

has a lot of bad movies of the type you describe.

As a fellow “bad movie” maven, enjoy!

(I highly recommend the books, “The Golden Turkey Awards” and “The 50 Worst Movies Ever Made” by Michael and Harry Medved. Nothing is as much fun as reading a review of a truly bad movie.

El santo contra la invasión de los marcianos: youtu.be/d_UvY5rzhH8
It’s in Spanish. I had the DVD with subtitles, but cheesiness needs no translation. It is El Santo, the masked wrestler from Mexico who confronts the martians. Professor, young attractive gal, hokey dialog. Campiness at its best. Tres magnifique or muy bueno!

As I’d mentioned in the other thread, Hawk the Slayer is one of my favorite bad movies. With a gloriously hammy Jack Palance and weaponized silly string, how could you go wrong?

Fun thread, I loved MST3K! Mine is Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things, a horribly written and acted zombie movie with an obnoxious cast. A 60’s hippie theater troupe led by a Napoleonic director goes to a deserted cemetery island, performs an occult ritual to raise the dead, and hilarity ensues. Not a Catholic friendly movie at all, but it does qualify as being so bad that it’s good.

Oddly enough (or not), only one of the actors went on to have many bit roles in TV series, another played the department store Santa in A Christmas Story, and the leading man became an active screenwriter, with movies like Mulan and The Substitute to his credit.

I don’t know, I’ve never understood liking bad movies. It seems like a waste of time even watching good movies half the time, why would I waste time with bad movies?

I should have listed my favorite bad ones in my previous post:

Plan Nine from Outer Space (long recognized by many as The Worst ever)

Valley of the Dolls

Night of the Lepus (giant bunnies attack a rural community)

As to why watch bad ones – sometimes they are funnier than any intentional comedy (cleaner too).

Ah yes, Plan 9, the best of the worst! Dark Star was another low-budget scifi movie that’s become a cult classic: imdb.com/title/tt0069945/

… it does qualify as being so bad that it’s good. …
There is something to this. In that category, I would place Eegah: The Name Written in Blood, about a cave man who is the last descendant of his kind from pre-historic times. It takes place in the desert near Palm Springs. I don’t think the director even took sound equipment on location, but dubbed the sound in later at the studio. The theater I worked in when I was in college showed it, and it has to be the worst movie ever made, even worse than The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. It is so bad that we thought it had escaped rather than being released; I mean REAL camp. It was also so bad that I had to own it. You can find it on-line. A very close second is Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death. 😃

Oh, by far my favorite worst movie that i love watching, in fact i think i have a VHS copy of it…Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. “Could you pass the ketchup, please”. Bhahhaaa

Some that I forgot to mention:

The musical version of Lost Horizon: As Bette Midler said, “I never miss a Liv Ullman musical.” Horrible songs and dances by people who aren’t primarily singers ruined a remake of a classic (love the original version with Charles Boyer.

Back Street (the Susan Hayward version). Really stupid soap opera

Dondi – sickeningly sweet pile of goo about a little Italian boy who hooked up with a troop of GIs (led by David Janssen and his girlfriend '50s singer Patti Page) and tries to come to America: Untalented kid and a soundtrack made completely of harmonica music.

Anyone here know Seytan, that Turkish ripoff of The Exorcist?

Speaking of bad 70s Turkish movies, there’s also 3 Dev Adam, where apparently Captain America and El Santo team up against Spiderman, who leads some sort of criminal organization for some reason (and who wears a cheap looking version of his costume to boot). Did I mention Spidey doesn’t really have any superpowers in this movie?

Oh, how Spidey has fallen.

Oh and dont forget Killer Clowns from Outer Space. I have had an extreme distaste for clowns every since i saw that one!

Weird, i posted and it said it would have to be approved??? Wha??

Anyway, who can forget Killer Clowns from Outer Space I have had a distaste for clowns every since i saw that one.

Love at First Bite
Zorro the Gay Blade
Logans Run
Forbidden Planet
I married a Monster from Outer Space

My favorite “bad” movie of all time … the comic book flop Supergirl, which effectively put the Salkind family out of the business of making movies about visitors from Krypton. (Though they did later produce the TV series “Superboy”, which ran for 4 seasons in syndication.)

I thought Helen Slater did quite well as the Girl of Steel – and in fact, it’s my understanding she is still, to this day, in demand at Superman conventions.

CBS is currently developing a “Supergirl” TV series. Hopefully it succeeds where the movie failed.

A 1970’s film called The Visitor.

Somehow name actors like Glenn Ford, John Huston, and Shelly Winters got stuck I this.

The basic premise is that a 10 year old girl is the focal point in a the battle between good and evil waged by two aliens.

The good alien is named Commander Yaweh and the bad alien is named Seetan.

Another bad movie(that I love anyway) is Spider Baby. Lon Chaney Jr. is the caretaker of a trio of children who suffer from a rare disease that causes them to regress.
