Well, it was just awkward from the get-go. I asked him to do the Confession after Mass, which he was very annoyed by, and throughout the entire thing I made mistakes (Such as forgetting to confess sins and interrupting him so I could confess them). He’s usually a nice and funny guy, but he seemed very annoyed that I asked and he was very short with me the entire time.
Perhaps a prayer can be offered to help that “priest” expect that a confession may present itself anytime he is there and it may not hit him so surprisingly in the future. And for some patience. All according to The Lords will. May God bless.

I’m curious, why the quotation marks around the word priest?

@ Brother Jay- I just want to thank you for taking the time to post and keep this thread on a viable route. It was enlightening on a number of levels. Happily, the greatest being our faith and not a lot of other things . . .

It strikes me that maybe your message would be a great PSA to run somewhere . .

What is PSA? They don’t teach that in theology.

Public service announcement.

It’s when a media station, tv or radio, etc, runs an add for free for the public’s benefit.
Ahhhhh . . . Thanks.

Can you imagine . . . “we stop our regularly scheduled program to bring you this public service announcement about confession.”

That would go over well.

Not that many people don’t need it.

The advice I got in the Confessional one time was, use condoms…didn’t take the advice…it went against my conscience…

Seriously? It’s a good thing you have a well-formed conscience.

A Prayer for Priests

‘O Holy Father, may the torrents of love flowing from the sacred wounds of Thy Divine Son bring forth priests like unto the beloved disciple John who stood at the foot of the Cross; priests: who as a pledge of Thine own most tender love will lovingly give Thy Divine Son to the souls of men.

May Thy priests be faithful guardians of Thy Church, as John was of Mary, whom he received into his house. Taught by this loving Mother who suffered so much on Calvary, may they display a mother’s care and thoughtfulness towards Thy children. May they teach souls to enter into close union with Thee through Mary who, as the Gate of Heaven, is specially the guardian of the treasures of Thy Divine Heart.

Give us priests who are on fire, and who are true children of Mary, priests who will give Jesus to souls with the same tenderness and care with which Mary carried the Little Child of Bethlehem.

Mother of sorrows and of love, out of compassion for Thy beloved Son, open in our hearts deep wells of love, so that we may console Him and give Him a generation of priests formed in thy school and having all the tender thoughtfulness of thine own spotless love.’

Well yes, the priest in question has since passed, about 3 years or so, may he be in the eternal bliss of Heaven.

Ok although this is personal I’ll tell you the way it went, he said my wife and I should be close, and if condoms were an aid to that barrier, then we should use them.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing in the confessional, and knew this is/was not what i’ve had drummed into me.

I never bothered correcting him although I wasn’t buying it, I’ve enough sin on my back without adding to it…

THAT’S bad advice and does not make sense.

I know it’s ridiculous, couldn’t believe my ears, if he had been young I’d have said he was a so-called progressive, but he must have been in his 70’s.

Anyway it don’t matter now, we were well catechized, so I expect that helped.

Do you think that he may have misunderstood you, given his age?

Maybe, but it felt quite clear to me at the time, anyway he can’t speak for himself now so I’ll not worry about it.

First-time anyone asked the question, so I never bothered telling anyone until now.

Yes people can splice and dice words and jumble them up to suit themselves, but I knew what he meant.

Are you against birth control pills also?

Instead of offering condoms to students and doctors prescribing birth control pills to teens, students should get educated and encouraged not to have sex unless they are planning on having a child.

Yes !

Agreed, but it’s not easy for everyone to take control and exercise restraint, a young man who’s hormones are running riot would find it difficult. I suppose it’s avoiding situations where we know restraint would be difficult, we aren’t all the same though.

Nooooooo

Teens must be reminded that they should not be having sex until they are married., not because they plan to have a child. Having sex outside of marriage, whether you conceive or not does not make the act any better.

It is true that during teen years there is a struggle with self-control. However, it is also true that we’re dancing around the subject of sex with teens. We, the adults, are justifying their promicuous behavior, “Because they’re teens and their hormones are raging.”

Guess what, When I hear this, my adrenaline rages and I feel like popping someone in the nose. Should I follow my hormones too?

I too have the weird adrenaline rush and feeling of popping someone in the nose when they’re ignorant and stubborn about this particular subject. 😃

Sex is not solely about having a child. It’s a moment of closeness and affection that should only be shared with between husband and wife. The “sex is only justifiable if you’re doing it to have a baby” ideal is highly Protestant, and is highly frowned upon by the Church.

Please dont misunderstand me. I am referring to marriage as planning to have a child. God forbid I promote fornication :).

May God bless.
