Bad reason to join the church?

hi there, im not sure if i should ask to join the church. all my friends at home and my current church thought im kinda crazy and im not sure if they are right, im shy and maybe its a sign of a weak personality… but catholicism sometimes influenced my life in positive ways, so im kinda confused…
im not sure my faith is sincere or if i know enough. im 18 at the moment. im not sure when one knows enough so that they’re ready? i’ve been on the rcia and learned alot about the sacraments there. i came from a christian background and am currently at an evangelical church which is really nice. but have always been attracted to catholicism since i found out about it, not sure…

There’s no harm in taking the time to learn more about the faith and discuss it with your teachers and priest so that you make a well-informed decision. It’s a big step, so treat it with the respect it deserves. You’re looking for a new home for yourself, so it is natural that you make sure the fit is right, on both sides.
 
if the local church does not take to me at all, surely it would not be an obstacle to joining the global church(?)… but is so important to get involved i guess, not because you are liked but for a sense of reality (besides the obvious reasons of going to mass lol!)

i don’t know awful lot but feel i do understand the eucharist and the basic differences… so i’m not sure if there is any large thing i am overlooking… if not, then i could be ready, but at this time waiting is very necessary. i just wondered if you should decide based on the feeling it’s basically true, or that is not enough- maybe there’s a criteria to help u, or is that a stupid idea lol-

Please remember that a lot of times when someone of a Christian denomination hears that you are interested in the Catholic Church, that it is upsetting to them. They may try to dissuade you from doing so due to hearing and believing some of the misinformation they have heard about the Church.

First of all, you don’t have to be a Catholic to participate in the Mass. Anyone can go to any Catholic Mass or Liturgy anywhere, even atheists. And that includes not only the Western Rite Mass, but also any of the Liturgies of any of the Eastern Catholic Churches.

You cannot receive communion, though, unless you are a Catholic.

Second of all, joining the Catholic Church almost always involves joining a particular parish. Generally one’s geographical parish. Parish life is an important component of Catholic life, and it is hard to dispense with.
 
oh wait, i miscommunicated- i meant once you converted, it’s important to go to mass (obvs.) and get involved volunteering, and not avoid those things (ofc you can’t avoid mass) if you sense that you don’t mesh with the community… although of course don’t impose yourself as an individual. it has to be a kind of impersonal decision of faith? if you think it’s just true. but that’s what i’m wondering about how i can decide.

Ok. I thought that you were implying that you were not welcome to attend Catholic Masses until after you convert. Like I said, anyone is welcome. Just no communion.

The more you learn, the easier it will be to decide. Take your time. There’s no rush. Better to do it right if you are going to do it at all.
