Please pray for me. I am trying to find a job so I can move out of my parents’ house. I am 27 years old and am long overdue in moving into my own place. I’ve desired to move for a while, but lately, things have gone downhill and it’s affecting my mental status which is not good and I don’t know what to do. My mom does not respect me at all. Her and her family all treat me like I’m second class garbage because I am not working right now. I’m getting the first degree inquisition all the time about when I’m going to start working again and I can’t do anything but sit by and constantly wait for a phone call for an interview on any of the numerous jobs I’ve applied for.

Plus, to top it all off, my car got a flat tire and needs to be repaired and I have very little money. My mom and dad are not willing to help at all, but in the meantime, expect me to continue looking for a job! I don’t know how I am expected to do this without a car! I can only apply to jobs online, and that doesn’t seem to be enough.

Please pray that I can find a way to move out of here soon. I don’t like being treated like this and I hate that I have to rely on others when I am perfectly capable of making my own money. This economy sucks!

I have had numerous arguments with my mom in the past few days and I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I cannot call my psychiatrist because they are on medical leave. I feel stranded…

*Eternal, Holy God,
I come to you burdened with worries,
fears, doubts, and troubles.
Calm and quiet me with peace of mind.
Empty me of the anxiety that disturbs me,
of the concerns that weary my spirit,
and weigh heavy on my heart.
Loosen my grip on the disappointments and grievances
I hold on to so tightly.
Release me from the pain of past hurts,
of present anger and tension, of future fears.
Sometimes it’s too much for me Lord,
too many demands and problems,
too much sadness, suffering, and stress.
Renew me spiritually and emotionally.
Give me new strength, hope, and confidence.
Prepare me to meet the constant struggles of daily life
with a deeper faith and trust in You.
Let your love set me free, for peace,
for joy, for grace, for life, for others, forever.

Amen*

Stay strong! I know some people in the same situation as yourself.

I am praying for you …

Thank you, St. Gabriel. Prayers make me feel so much better, and I pray that God will answer them soon. :gopray:

**I stayed home after college, but I worked for my dad
on the family farm. When he had a heart attack and died,
I went looking for a job and left home. Mom is impossible to
live with. Now I have been diagnosed with Schizophrenia and
live in a house mom owns. I manage well, but she is still an issue.
I will pray you get independent soon.

Thank you. It’s hard to have a mental illness and even harder to receive stigma and criticism from people you know and trust, especially your own family. I don’t blame them for wanting me to get independent because that’s what I want as well. I am just tired of them always forcing the issue. I cannot control the job market. I can only apply and try my best to get hired, but sometimes it doesn’t work out because there are so many people who are unemployed right now.

I just decided to reopen my application for AmeriCorps and I remembered that I have one of the two references needed. I am trying to figure out who I can ask to supply the 2nd. I’ve heard good things about it and it would be a way for me to earn money to go back to college (they provide a end-of-service education grant of about $5,000) and build up my skills and resume.

Throughout all of this, I am praying hard!

Take a look at vocational rehabilitation services in your state. They do generally require that you have enough initiative to request this or that service. And they often provide car repair help, since this is often needed to get back to work.

If your psychiatrist is out on medical leave, he/she should have arranged for someone to fill in, providing services for his/her patients.

You might be able to buy a used tire from a tire place. I used to do that, but it was a long time ago. Also, your tire might be repairable. Can you or a friend jack up the car and take it off so you can get it to a place where they can look at it?

*** Asking for the intercession of St. Cajetan, St Joseph, St Lydwine of Schiedham, Servant of God Fr. Nelson Baker and the Infant of Prague on your behalf…

Praying hard for all so afflicted and their loved ones whether able to post or not. Praying that the hearts of those finding fault with you will soften & that they come to choose their words more wisely/compassionately…

Lord Jesus Christ, You have willed that St. Dymphna should be invoked by thousands of clients as the patroness of nervous and mental disease and have brought it about that her interest in these patients should be an inspiration to and an ideal of charity throughout the world. Grant that, through the prayers of this youthful martyr of purity, those who suffer from nervous and mental illness everywhere on earth may be helped and consoled. .

Be pleased to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna and of Your Blessed Mother. Give those whom I recommend the patience to bear with their affliction and resignation to do Your divine will. Give them the consolation they need and especially the cure they so much desire, if it be Your will. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive
those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil.
Amen

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou among women,and
blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us now, and
at the hour of our death.
Amen

Glory be to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, as is and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell,
lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Your Mercy.
Amen

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins,
my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Saint Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host -
by the Divine Power of God -
cast into hell, satan and all the evil spirits,
who roam throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen. **

Here’s a few tips that may help. 🙂

Whenever we get into bad situations, it is also an opportunity to offer our suffering up. And we can practice humility, which is VERY pleasing to Our Lord!

And one more thing, that may help you to be happier in your life. Always come as a servant to others. Put yourself last. Take abuse quietly and offer it up. Go the extra mile for others. It always pays off eventually! 🙂

Have you ever considered a vocation to the religious life? I have a first cousin who’s a Dominican nun at St. Cecilia’s in Nashville. They are SO happy! They take the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. That may sound hard, but if you think about it, they never have to worry about money, bills, rent, insurance, where to find food, clothing, or shelter. Everything is completely taken care of for them. And they can spend their time teaching school and praying, and getting ever closer to Jesus. The Mother Superior told my aunt and uncle when my cousin first went there that their job is to make Saints! And from what I can see, they’re doing a wonderful job of it! 🙂

I know, the psychiatrist was really dumb to leave and not supply help for her patients. On the day before my appointment, the office called and canceled and told me she was on leave. When I called the next day, I never got a reply. The office is state-funded because it’s for people who are unemployed or poor. Because of that, the help sometimes is subpar. I like my psychiatrist, but she has been on medical leave twice since I started seeing her and both times put me and her other patients in the same situation. When I see her on the 26th, I’m going to explain how this affected me.

Yes, I have looked into the idea of buying a used tire. There is a place near me that will install used, inspected tires. Right now, my car has the spare donut tire on it, but I haven’t been anywhere in it in three days because it is not safe to drive on. I hope to go to the garage today or tomorrow to get it replaced.
Have you ever considered a vocation to the religious life?
I stopped discerning this past July because I haven’t felt called since December 2009. It’s like the desire just disappeared. I went on my last vocational retreat in January this year. Also, all the religious communities I discerned with questioned me about my past history of mental illness and I have yet to find a community that I feel called to that doesn’t have a requirement of being off medication for at least a year (I am currently on medication and will most likely be on it the rest of my life because everytime I get off it, I get sick again). 😦

Here is how it went down for me: Our local free clinic has NO psychiatrist. However, they require anybody on psych meds to see a psychiatrist. I was on Effexor, which has been good for me for years, but I needed something more. SO… Vocational rehab sent me to a psychologist, who gave me diagnoses that REALLY made sense. They then sent me to see a psychiatrist, who agreed with the psychologist’s diagnoses and recommendation. So I have been on Seroquel for several years, and it has been a great help in handling my anxieties to a point where I could work through my “stuff.” Yeah, I may be on meds for the rest of my life because of the traumas and self-blame. That is OK.

I was on Seroquel for a while. That is good medicine. It really helped after I had a terrible reaction to Paxil (it mimicked bipolar disorder). The doctor gave me a temporary prescription of it to balance my moods out while the Paxil got out of my system. When it was finished, I went on Zoloft. I trust Seroquel and will go on it if I ever need to again. 🙂

I'm not selling this or promoting it for profit or anything. My wife used this and it helped her a lot! It might help you get off some of your medications or all of them. Can't hurt to try.
Scooby 🙂

I’ve tried something very similar to that before and it didn’t help. It’s not something that can be eliminated. Doctors have done various tests and it’s not caused by anything other than a chemical imbalance. I’ve been on and off medications since 1999. I got back on them in July this year and I have come to the conclusion that I’m probably going to be on them for the rest of my life, which doesn’t bother me as long as they work. 🙂

Today, I’m hoping to get my tire fixed. Although I am short on money, I have to get it fixed so I can get out of the house when I want to. I’m experiencing “cabin fever” and I really don’t think it’s a good idea to let that get out of hand. I’m shopping online now for places around me that have the best price. Please pray that I can get it fixed and that things with my mom will be rectified. I’m tired of always worrying about her kicking me out of the house for not working when I am still looking and haven’t given up yet.

Today seemed to go much better because I didn’t have any tiffs with my mom (yet 😉 ) and she just offered to pay for my new tire, but I have to wait until this weekend in order to have her help. Seems like a reasonable offer. It will stink to have to be stuck in the house again tomorrow, but it’s just one more day and I think I can handle it. Thanks be to God for your prayers! Never underestimate the power of prayer. It can change everything because God loves us all.

“Pray, hope and don’t worry. Worry is useless. God is merciful and will hear your prayer.”–St. Padre Pio

When your tire is fixed, it might help you to make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament so you can ask Jesus what He wants you to do right now. That’s helped me in the past when I’ve been unemployed … was life-changing in fact. Life still has its challenges and like you, I’m currently looking for work, so I can relate.

Praying for you …

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
